Is it a new website? Could you post it here and did you do something special to get that update rate? Usually website updated very often are updated very often. For example: news, press release.

Congratulations! You just bested Google! Now all you need is traffic, keyword ranking, an effective way to monetize your site, and more traffic!

I am actually working out right now to see how fast I can get google to start crawling my pages daily. I started a blog about a week ago with a bit of google spidering (though google knows my domain), but its not daily because i am not posting daily right now.

edit, nevermind, shortly after writing this, i check my daily stats on my site and lo-and behold:
    Googlebot 4 42.08 KB 01 Jun 2009 - 04:19
    Yahoo Slurp 3 9.88 KB 01 Jun 2009 - 00:32

both yahoo and google are visiting a few times a day... and the blog isn't a week old yet.

wordpress sites always get googlebot quick. probably because when ever you save a blog post it pings pingomatic and that calls the Spiders .

everything is possible. even google bots index your website after 15 minuts, if your website gets updates in minuts.

Google and the other engines typically have scheduled crawls of your site where they will do a deep crawl. This typically starts out once per month or so. If Google comes back in a month and sees a bunch of new content then they might up the scheduled crawl rate to ever two weeks. They continue to do this until they feel they have struck a balance between their crawl rate and your content generation rate.

This is why people say, "Search engines like sites that change their content often!". Basically, if your site is updated often then the search engine is more likely to crawl you more frequently. It doesn't really mean you get any kind of ranking boost because your site changes often. Simply, that you get crawled more often so new content has a better chance of ranking faster.

IMO "changing content" on an existing page (other than maybe the home page) is not necessarily always a good idea unless the changes are being made to optimize the page for it's targeted keywords... If I have a page that ranks well, that's been optimized well, I would avoid ever changing that page at all and instead focus on building backlinks to improve it's rankings. If I have a 10 page site and I just keep changing those same 10 pages every day, yes I might get Google to crawl me more often but my rankings are going to be all over the place (not consistant) and pretty much suck....

Instead, I would generate "new content" frequently as a way of getting Google to up my crawl rate. Adding NEW pages to your site constantly is a MUCH better method of getting Google to crawl your site more frequently. And more importantly, each of those new pages can target different keyword phrases because with each page you get a new <title>, new <h1>, new <h2>s, new content, etc. so you have the possibly of ranking well for many more keyword phrases.

Additionally, inbound links play a BIG part in how often your site is crawled as well. Other sites who link to you have scheduled crawls as well. When Google crawls those sites, the discover the links back to your site. They will follow those links to make sure that they are still good and to see if the links have been 301 redirected to somewhere else so that they can give credit to the URL that is the target of your 301 redirect. When they follow the links from those sites to your site, while they are there Google will typically crawl some of your site as well.

Our site is being crawled by Google 24hrs per day x 365 days per year... mostly because of the millions of inbound links.

That was a good response by Canonical; I didn't know all of that. dopanel.com, start optimizing your individual site pages and let them be then start building inbound links to generate traffic.

If I put up a blog post on my site, Google indexes that new page very quickly.

I use Wordpress, and my record is 7 minutes... :)

Well it's always good to get indexed frequently but honestly it stops there. Indexing might be 2% of the battle. After your indexed you need to feed the search engines (there spiders are hungry). If you keep them satisfied with fresh content they will keep coming back and ranking you well, but if your content drys up the index rate is useless. Take advantage of it while you can.
