    I hope this is the correct thread for this question. Anywayz, I have another site hosted somewhere else and for few months, I was satisfied with their services until one day I noticed that my wordpress admin was not in its usual look. I decided to submit a ticket and they told me that they need to transfer my blog to another server and advised me to wait 24 to 48 hours till the transfer is over. My question is, normally how long does it take to transfer a wordpress blog to another server because its been 72 hours already since the transfer and until now the site is still now working on my end. Is this normal? Please advice.

    It takes minutes but consider there're lot of things that can slow down the process. Anyway, not 3 days... ;)

    Thanks babau, did you mean 3 days is already too much? They keep on telling me that my site is already loading fast around the world, but on my end I can't still access the wordpress admin.. I'm already losing some cents on this problem..

    Maybe the problem is in your site and not in the server it's hosted...

    Maybe, but the transfer is already running so right now, I'm just waiting on when I can access it.. what is the best thing to do with this kind of problem? I'm thinking of moving my site to another hosting but I don't have any backups on all my posts/databases..

    You should be able to generate a backup from cpanel. If your site hasn't been moved yet it means it is still on the old server. If it has been moved you can get your backup from the new server. If you're switching host, the new host'll surely be happy to help you transferring your site (you only need to provide your login and pass for cpanel). As I told you a couple messages ago, this takes minutes ;)

    Thanks a lot babau for the very informative answer, can you suggest a good web host that ask a monthly payment?

    Yep, your new host will merely help you migrate your old cPanel account onto their server. That is, if your account is still at your old host's.

    Though sometimes, patience is the key.

    I've already told them and showed them if the nameservers i'm using are correct and they told me that everything is ok.

    @babau

    Transferring takes a few minutes depending on the size of your account, but you might want to consider that the host also has other work :)

    few minutes to few hours to be exact - recently I moved an account using 900+mb of space on the remote server and it took nearly 3 hours to create a backup on the remote server (I believe it was a single core or dual core server) and then about 20-30 minutes to transfer it over and then another few minutes to extract

    there are a lot of factors to considers - unless both servers are in the same datacenter or same network, it can take hours - but not days as the OP said.

    Yours may not be the only account. So the transfer can be composed of 100 GB, for example, even though your website may be well under 1 GB. In such a scenario, you can expect transfers of up to a few days.
