Seriously, the stats right now are 1300 online, 1000 are unregistered while 300 actually are registered.

what's up with that? sure, some of them could be banned, but what about the rest?

    I think that's normal for a forum.

I run a forum too and at any given time only around 10% of my users are registered users. (Some may be registered, but not logged-in).

I have been a 'looker' for 2 years pretty much, I've posted now and again, I have never really had time to really socialise on the forum, I am going to start getting involved with the community propley from now on!

Maybe most of them are from SE traffic and have yet to register.

It is a fact that there are always more spectators than players....and hence at any point of time, you will always find guest readers far outnumbering the registered members!

I can barely login because DP times out. I can't imagine how hard it must be to register.

This forum is loaded with information. Folks read and learn what they need - why bother posting if you have nothing to add?

Also, I think a lot of folks still like the anonymous factor of the internet (if their is such a thing)

With a big forum like DP, it appears in many search engine queries, for long tail and sometimes right tail too.
Henceforth a lot of people browsing DP got there by search engine and did not register.

Only one third of the members are active member.
Among those member only parts of them are very active member.
IMO, it is quite normal in dp or any other forums.

Yeah.. too much of them. I think it's mainly due to much banning going here for silly reasons. The members then visit the forum without logging in.
