Hi guys i've got somewhat of an issue and am wondering if anyone here has noticed this and/or found a way around.

I was going through ebay.com and ebay.co.uk researching the Domain names "Complete Listings" so i can have an understanding of what is selling at the moment, so as to understand the market better.

I was going through the list making a spreadsheet with the relevant info and when i notice one guy in one day making 10 000 dollars in profit and 10 000 dollars in unsold items.

Obviously i got excited but the whole thing sounded way too good to be true so i started to dig and noticed that all of his bidders on all of his items (Domain Names) had names like - one letter the two or three asterisks and another random letter so i understood that the a**ho** is boosting is feedback and sales.

My problem was when i started to check every other good sell and noticed that every single one of them is doing this the whole marker for domain names is doing this, how am i supposed to make a decent study to start selling domains? and even if i bid on any item i'm gonna be outbidded.

Anyone has a word of advice here?

    Thank you.

So if I get your question correctly... You want to know who the bidders are?

The best advice that I can give you is DO NOT BUY AND SELL DOMAINS ON EBAY! And do not use Ebay for domain research.

There are more credible sites where professionals actually do business to get your research from.
Try Sedo, and DN Journal. People who buy and sell domains and websites on Ebay are noobs, or pros looking for noobs who know nothing about the business.
The occasional gems are far a few in between, and most of the websites are cookie cutter assembly line jobs that are resold to countless noobs over and over again.

Well it's obvious the bidders and the Seller are all the same person what it freaks me is that the whole thing makes ebay a terrible place to Buy/Sell Domain Names.

Well yea man, thats what i understood, bidding in anything there it's just falling into the croc jaws and putting any of my Domains on sale it's just a waste of time.

I know of 2 more markets and will have to research them but i was just shocked, i guess ebay doesn't give a damn since they're earing quite a good amount of money with the auction fees, it's a shame really.

Thanks for mentioning a few more places, i'll be sure to check them out.

No it's not that. I love Ebay, both as a shopper, and an affiliate...but it is an open swap meet for buyers and sellers.
There is not a whole lot they can do...anybody is welcome to list what ever they want, for whatever price they want...it's up to the buyer to beware.

I agree with you, but what i mean is that the same person is selling a lot of items and using several different other accounts to boost it's feedback and with it making it impossible to know what are the hot niches in the domain section so i can start to trade there, right now investing any money on it would be crazy.

That shouldn't be aloud i believe.

That is a symptom all over the web. People routinely post fake testimonials on their landing pages, leave comments on their own blog under different screen names and email addresses, I even see people leaving their own positive feedback on requests for reviews right here on the forum (Which I really don't understand).

The bottom line is ebay is not the place to buy and sell domains, or do niche research, there are much better tools to use to find hot items and niches.of the moment.

I love ebay, but it's a swap meet. People who buy domains and websites on Ebay are not pro's for the most part, they are noobs who don't know internet marketing.

Websites and domains sell there by selling hype and hope..not any concrete market research. Most of the cookie cutter sites for sale there could be built for $20 and a half days work if people just took the time to learn something.

If you are selling based on peoples ignorance, like for instance 'Jeff Pauls Secret to Internet Millions' (which is a total scam) that runs infomercials all over morning cable TV, then I can see targeting the ebay crowd, but if you are selling domains and websites that actually have value, you need to sell them to people who know the business on reputable sites like Site Point, Name Pro's, DP, DN Forum, Sedo, which are also better places to really see what is selling at the moment from people who do this for a living...not housewives trying to get rich quick.

EACH & EVERY ONE OF YOU ARE FULL OF IT! Obviously they don't know anything about eBay's current listing rules/practices. I do. I've sold domain names & a plethora of other goods for over 10 years now!!!!! Bull.
The reason you see asterisks by bidder's IDs is because eBay recently changed this for security (of bidders) reasons. No big deal!!!!!!! In fact, if you were a bidder, you'd appreciate it, as I do, because it protects us from spammers, hackers & thieves who would to contact bidders directly after making a bid to try to make illegal deals with us!!!!! Nothing untowardly about this practice. Stop ragging on eBay! Haters! It's one of my many dozens of successful selling strategiess (eBay). If what you have to offer isn't worth much, people won't want it - no matter what forum you try to sell it on. Don't assume people's ignorance. There's a sucker born every minute; but those who rely on suckers to buy their CR-P don't usually sell on reputable, successul sites!!!!! Therefore, they put those sites down: I have had success on all the places I've tried thus far. Some more than others. (BRAG, BRAG, BRAG! LOL!!!!) I'm just saying that junk is junk. Good stuff is good. No matter where you sell it! Don't put all of your eggs in one basket. Get info. from MANY sources (this is the INTERNET AGE, for God's sakes!) and don't take any wooden nickels! LOL Access & integrate ALL the tools & resources available. Don't depend on only one opinion from one place. I've been doin' this gig for over 11 years. Take MY word for it. When people don't know about things, they very often spout off like ignorant nay-sayers!
    Best of luck! Truck on!

Nobody is ragging onEbay as a company or business, but it is a horrible place to study buying and selling domains and websites for someone that is not experienced in the business, and equally as bad to purchase from there if you do not know what you are doing.

It's full of garbage, overpriced, and duplicate content websites that are resold over and over on different domains.

My point was if you are studying the business, or looking to purchase, Ebay would be the last place that I would look for a domain or website and expect the seller to be forthcoming.

I have seen may, many people get ripped off there (buying websites and domains) because they didn't know any better and many sellers depend on that.

eBay can be good for picking up cheap domain names. I have bought a few from eBay and have turned them into big winners raking in $$$ every month.

But there are a lot of CRAP domains on eBay. You just have to know what you are doing.

That's all I'm saying. ANYTHING or ANYWHERE can be a good source of research. It's up to the researcher. But the original post was ABOUT THE ASTERISKS in the Bidder's listings people!!!!! Keep on subject! No one touched upon the actual poster's concerns except for ME! LOL.
I actually gave the poster FACTS concerning his posted concern. Stop extrapolating & digressing!!!! Let the poster make up heir own mind about how to research. Why are YOU judging HOW anybody does their research!!!??? This forum is NOT exemplary of the domain market in general. I should know. I'm an "original" - I've been doing this professionally since 1998! Ha. Funny.
