Need Help on Targetting A Country

Hello fellas, first of all, I'd like to say Hi to all you DPers.

This is my first time posting here and I hope to learn more from you guys in the future. The reason of me opening this thread is because I need help in advertising my site to people from a specific country.

The website I'm advertising is a community like site and it'll be a bi-lingual one.

Another question is, should I do SEO? If so, what can I do? I don't think I can really optimize the site for content since it'll be something like myspace.com

Also, does the sites title affect SE ranking? What about the description in the meta tag line?

Thank you all in advance for helping me out.

maybe you want to start off by showing as the URL of the site, so that we can thoroughly understand what kind of community site your advertising.

There are many ways to target a specific country by going to their local listings site first. You can also view their tourist site to find other website targetting that country,..

There are also user groups found on the internet sorted by what country most of the group members are residing. :) If your really saying that it's similar to myspace, then i guess you should make some friends with people residing in that country...my friend has a dating site too and he is getting decent members from chatrooms by interacting with them everyday. Sound laborous, but "word of mouth advertising" will spread eventually..

You need to host the site in the country you are targetting.

Could you please elaborate more on why should I? I was planning on hosting it elsewhere/other country but if there's a valid point for this I'll host locally.

If you want traffic from search engines then you must host locally. They geo target the results so a person from the UK will see results skewed towards UK sites. Hosting is the major factor in the methods search engines use to decide where a site is located.

So if the site is on a .com domain and I buy all the .com.my,.net.my (example) and point it to the actual domain, will that help?

How big of a deal is that? Hosting a site in my country would cost me 25% more.

Would it be worth it? Anyone?

When I mean links, find a website similar to your website that has good traffic, and buy a link on their website.

I can definitely vouch for the suggestion of having your site hosted in the country that you are targeting.

I had top 5 search engine rankings for one of my sites in Google.com - But no rankings for same keywords in google.com.au.

A Dp member suggested I host the site in Australia and within weeks I had the same top rankings in google.com.au

So this is tip is definitely worth following.

No. A .com site will be fine as long as its hosted in the right place. You should still buy the other versions just to stop anybody else getting them.

It is a big deal. If your site is to make any money whats an extra 25% of your hosting fees?

The blog is googles blog, not mine.
