I was just going through another webmaster forums today, and there is thread on the same topic and many really said google no more values backlinks from a directory, what is your stand on this whole issue? Do you really think directory submissions are dead? Thank you
I dont think that it is dead. It helps especially new created sites. Begin SEO with dir submissions and then You can use other offpage optimization types.
The directory owners don't think its dead. The SEO kiddies don't think its dead. The SEO pros think its dead.
The object of "directory submission" was to obtain a link that had page rank. After 8 years, this has not happened to any of the links we created. Even if they were registered by Google (Webmaster Tools), they were on a PR0 page with 50+ links. But if you look closer, the pages are GrayBarred. In short, no value at all.
SEO directories aren't dead. You just have to be smart about the directories that you put your website in. Concentrate on directories that are highly related to your website. Never go for those offers where someone will submit your site to 500 directories for $50. Go for niche directories and high quality directories such as dir.yahoo.com and botw.org.
I agree with the niched directory approach. People use niched directories still. But broad categorized directories I think are depreciated.
I think people refer to it as dead only because the PR is being divided between all 100 links on the page instead of being divided between 5 links on a normal page. That's slightly exagerated but you get the point.
its not dead to start with.......but it cant take you to the next level.....you can start with that but when your site get good back links then try to do something else........ Regards Free Games
