Linking key words in articles?

I have some articles on my site and throught that linking some keywords to other areas of my site or other sites would be a really good pomotional idea. Now I could go into dreamweaver and link certain keywords manually or using find & replace but is there a simpler way?

Maybe a free script or something that will do this dynamically - that would be a real treat to find something like that. Has anyone done this before? How did it work for you and what is the best / easiest / cheapest way of going about it?

Thanks so much for the help ;)

Hmm.. there are advertising companies that do this.. but I don't know of any way to do it yourself.

Would be interesting if there was an easy way to do this and manage it.

So I will be interested to hear the answer as well. I just don't know of anything to do it automatically or centrally.

My programmer can write a script to do this quite easily.

You could easily export the content from your database into a csv file and use find and replace from there. I would save your raw data in a separate file in case you accidentally corrupt it though.

I prefer the idea of a script also much better now that I have been thinking about it. Reason is becuase with a script based dynamic thing it will automatically do certain keywords that have just been uploaded. For example if I add an article to my website all the keywords that I have determined in the script will automatically be linked. This is much nicer than having to go through the article ever time with find & replace!

Can anyone point me to a working script that will do this for me?

Its best to do that manually because I think that you dont want too many links to be put on any single page, right?
So the best way is to do it manually and sensibly

I would also think that doing it manually would be the better option. That way you can ensure that the links are placed in the most visible spots and aren't repeated too many times on the same page.

Also if your site get loads of traffic then having each and every page waiting for a script could degrade load times and put unneeded load on the server.

Interesting point I hadn't thought about that. It would be nice to hear from someone that has already done this and what their expeiriences were.

Do it manually or you could end up over-linking from the articles.
