Impact of 500 million links from 1 site to mine?

Hey guys, using my connections on the web I am negotiating a deal to place a link in the footer of another website to my site. The website has approximately 500 million pages, thus I would then have 500 million pages linking to my site. Approximately 10% of the website is Page Rank 5 or above.

If this happens, what kind of impact could I see in search engine results? They are only outlinking to 1 other website.

Currently with about 5,000 links pointing to my site I get about 80 google hits a day.

I just want to know what I could possibly expect from this, I'm hoping a lot :)

Well the website has been up since 1999 and literally has 500 million pages. A large portion are forum pages (200 million threads with multiple pages) and the rest are pages that are unique content. I've been friends with the owner for several years. They are ranked about 1800 in Alexa and are a great website.

    Ah, ok!

Can't really help you there mate, I was just curious but I would imagine you would certainly be at no.1 on Google.

You could probably only dominate one keyword though if it's the same link on every page.

    Good luck!

I wouldn't ask for the footer link. It will look suspicious and probably raise a red flag at Google. Besides, the more links from one site the less Google takes them into account. So if I were you I'd ask for a link from the home page and call it good.

I see what your saying freelistfool, but they have one or two of the other websites their company produces in their foot as well, and they are doing quite well with PR 5 rank. I don't see how it would penalize me if another legit site wanted to link to me?

Your PR will increase from the link but that's not going to help you much in SERPs. Work on SEO to increase your visibility on search engines.

Footer link had been devalued by Google a long time ago. I can't see it hurting, but I don't think it will have the impact that you think it would. But I'd love to hear an update on how it worked out for you...

Wow, the impact may be like Google bowling. I would not risk such a move. Focus on relevant links and don't chase the green fools gold aka PR.

Use freelistfool's advice. Otherwise you are playing with fire...

It will of course help, the only thing is it will not be the same has having 500 mil unique sites linking to you. Just curious what is the site that supposidly has 500 mil pages? thats more than the PR 9 and 10 sites out there seems a little unrealistic. Anyway having the same site link back to you won't increase your rankings nearly the same amount as having links from diffrent websites.

500 million is way too many, Google would go into overdrive with Red flags and give you a big stamp on the head saying "Banned".

Go easy on that one mate. Sounds a bit risky. Could blow you out of the water - maybe opt for a homepage only link? - a bit safer :)

I have to agree with most of the posters: it seems very risky. Google may still ban you or raise a red flag over your head. I would accept this footer link, but only if you understand what Google may see it as.
