I don't think you can meet them in anyway because I have heard that they have not been even approving any links from past few years.
Yet another completely unsupported rumour. Sites are added every day, all over the directory. For example, I have added over 25,000 sites in the "past few years", and I am just one of hundreds of volunteers from all over the world.
Only editors can add sites, but we welcome site suggestions from other people. Reviewing them is not a priority for editors, of course, but they are a resource we can use if we choose to.
I think somewhere in a thread on DP only. I will try to search the exact thread URL and let you all know.
It does not really matter where you heard it, because it is obviously not true, as you can easily see for yourself. Lies are everywhere on the internet, so when you can check things yourself it is often a good idea not to simply believe what you read.
I am new here, so i was not aware of the actual fact. But now i just seen some dmoz editor here and now i am 100% sure that some dmoz editors are here
That is not proof that sites are approved, it's just evidence that sites are added. There is a slight difference...
Well, seeing there are hundreds of applications every week, and many applications are reviewed within hours to days (most of them within a few weeks), and remembering that each one is personally reviewed by one of only a few volunteers ... I think we do pretty well, actually. The application probably takes less than an hour to complete, and might be reviewed within a day or two ... if that requires too much patience perhaps a more dynamic hobby might be more suitable.
There is no difference at all - it's precisely the same thing. Any site must be "approved" before it is listed. It doesn't matter whether the editor found the site in the pool of suggestions, on the internet, in a local directory, a magazine or wherever. If it meets the criteria for selection, it can be listed - that's what is meant by "approved".
In context, I believe, approval is of a submitted site. Saying that they are one in the same, is like saying that a completed transaction with positive feedback on scriptlance for paid listings is in fact proof of a paid listing
That is not a concept that applies to DMOZ. It applies only to directories which offer a listing service, like scriptlance offers a reverse auction service. DMOZ is not a listing service, so "submissions" are neither "approved" nor "rejected". Editors look for sites wherever they like, and if they find a worthwhile site, they list it. If they happen to look at the pool of suggestions and find a worthwhile site there, they will list it, but it is far more likely they will find such sites elsewhere, and "approve" them instead.
