My morning got off to a rocky start because of this. I hope to save some one else the time. On boot up this morning I was confronted with an error message box that said: The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run proerly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor suppling the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL. I installed a MS update as I shut down last night and that is the only thing I had installed for days. To make a long story short, there is a hot fix for this at Microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/935448/en-us The problem will not affect all XP users. The solution above solved the problem after installing and rebooting.
I just went through that too. Also if you run AVG ntoskml.exe may show as an infected file but it is also part of the update. To get it to stop from showing up on an AVG scan highlight the file and click F3 and accept the changes.
Im having the same problem and just google searched and found your post. Gonna try it out. Thanks for sharing the info Colbyt.
Wow! I am really happy that I posted this ever so long ago. You guys are are welcome and stick around the forums. Others have posted better stuff.
i have same prob in Sp3 Does It Work With Sp3 too, Will Try It Later But If someone can confirm, myn says The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run proerly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\SHELL32.DLL occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor suppling the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL. Dont remember Its Shell Or Shell32, googled but no help found
The initial post is almost 2 years old. I was running sp2 at the time but have since upgraded to sp3 or better and nothing got broken as I did those incremental upgrades.
There is some site I can't remember it name. They help in resoling PC problems for free. I also had this one but it stopped after sp3 upgrade. You can check this forum. They helped me one time with a virus fix www.suggestafix.com/
some years ago I have a similar problem and it solves with the installation of the SP3 upgrade... but I let windows a lot of time ago... now I use gnu/linux and is much more stable!
Just what I was looking for. Thanks a bunch Colbyt! You'd be surprised how many people are running some old school stuff
driver glitch problem apparently. Yesterday was patch tuesday and they released a few fixes which is why this problem resurfaced for some.
Hej, Thanks a lot for the information Roman. However my ntoskml.exe is still showing up as infected after highlighting the file and clicking F3. Any ideas why?
