Recently i got an online profitable business idea for which i acquired a generic domain name. Now i will explain this business idea to the top investing companies or venture capitalists etc. to provide me some funds. But before that i want to protect my business idea(business plan), what if they copy my idea after listening and apply on their own? so i need some kind of cheap patent or trademark or copyright to protect my business idea. Between i am from India. I know about uspto.gov but its pretty high price & very confusing procedure. Suggest me some good method. Thank you.
Why would a investing company or venture capitalist who's primary business is to invest money change their business model to steal your business idea? You're already off to a pretty bad start.. Anyways there are companies who can do trademarks for you just have to find the right one.
Protecting my business plan is a wrong start? correct me if i'm wrong because this is the biggest project for my life.
There is no cheaper way to register a trademark than by following the directions on the web site and doing all the paperwork yourself. If it's something you want to pursue, though, it's worth paying an expert to help through the process. If you are going to do it, do it properly. (And FYI you can't copyright a business idea.) But as SBC points out this may not be necessary at all if you are working with reputable VCs. You might try to get potential investors to sign a NDA, but they may not be willing to do that.
It would take you a lot of time and expense to patent a business method. Your best bet is to use a non-disclosure agreement. You can find plenty on the web.
Not for its generic meaning, anyway. But people buy gas from Shell, use Tide to wash their clothes, or apply Head And Shoulders on their hair. But to the OP, Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) is something you can look, although the VCs don't have to agree to it as someone said.
