Sure would be nice if our military weren't bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan about now.

The next time Kim Jung Il is drunk on Hennessy he may decide to launch a missle. Considering the fact that he has starved 1 million of his won people, he's not going to think twice about killing Americans.

    Look before you leap ;)

Ok well thanks that clears it up.

So long as I understand that you support the war where Americans fight in which we went into over WMDs that don't exist. As opposed to Americans fighting to stop a regime that is actively testing WMDs in our face.

Although you may have a point. Bush spent the last credibility we had as a global leader getting nations to sign on for the Iraq war. So if we went at it we'd likely have to go it alone.

Iraq was about 9/11 and WMD's were only one aspect.

In a Korean War the mission of the Army is to die in place and the US National Guard and Reserves to hold until forces can be trained to push the North Koreans back.

9/11 was a good cause for started a war vs Iraq. People still don't know who really atacked America in that day. Hope Abama is more clever than Bush and he won't be looking for terorrists in N. Korea.

    And thanks for yours .

The US would still beat NK. Air superiority is what will win it.

Excellent point that most people seem to just ignore. People who cheer men like Kim Jung Il are ignorant, stupid, or both.

Bogart: Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. The Bush administration hoodwinked us on that. There were no connections between Al Queda and Iraq.

Iraq was about the cabal of members of the Bush administration that wanted to change the regime in Iraq since the 1990's. They used 9/11 to enable them to do what they wanted for 4,5,6,7 years before 9/11.

The North Korea situation sucks. They are a crazy dangerous rogue nation. Who knows what the people in N Korea and the military are like. Its an incredible closed society.

They have a relative sh!t load of military power. They could unleash it against South Korea, our forces there, Japan...who knows who. They are dangerous crazy mfers. It appears that even China and Russia can't control the crazyness in that nation.

Nothing we have done for decades in trying to stop their efforts at militarizing and developing nukes has worked. So much for all our internal pitterpatter of blaming internally different administrations. It speaks to the sometimes silliness of our internal political cr@p.

We have tried to isolate them (Bush administration) we have tried to negotiate with them (dem approach). Nothing works. They dance to their own tunes....China pretty much likes them the way they are.

Meanwhile they are a dangerous rogue govt.

If they started reigning all that existing military might on anyone it would be a f*cking nightmare.

Yup....we are in no position to go to war with them now. Our military is stretched very thin.

If you wanna know how thin it was and is ...read Bob Woodward's last book on the Bush administration. When Bush wanted to increase soldiers in Iraq thru the surge...most of the Pentagon was against it..basically commenting that would stretch our military too thin. One of their responses was a draft.

This is ultimately why we are still fighting in Iraq and still fighting in Afghanistan after all these years. We don't have enough forces in a position to end/win these wars outright. We are not like we were in WWII.

Its one of the cr@p @ss situations that doesn't get discussed openly in our political environment.

I'm not suggesting what we do....but we sure as hell didn't go into Iraq because of 9/11. We went in there because the decision makers in power at the time had wanted Iraqi regime change for years...and 9/11 gave them the opportunity to take a shot at it.

Our Airforce is superior to North Korea. However, they have placed most of thier critical military plants underground. North Korea also has thousands of miles of tunnels. They have been preparing to wage war against the US for the last 50 years. The North Koreans are way more powerful than the North Vietnamese ever where.

The US Army was reduced from 18 active divisions to 12 after the collapse of the Soviet Union. During the Clinton years there was a further reduction to 10active divisions. Number wise the US Army went from approx 770,000 to approx 485,000.

That is another consideration. Iraq was still on the table from Gulf War I and we needed to take someone out after 9/11.

Also, there were some loose connections between Al Qaeda and Iraqi intelligence. Al Qaeda in Iraq were already there before we had attacked Saddam.

Furthermore, Saddam was paying the families of suicide bombers #25k each and commiting genocide against the Shiites and Kurds. It really wasn't a matter of waiting him out. His two homocidal sons had a firm grip on power. They probably would have been a future threat against the US after the French and Russians rearmed them.

On topic(N. Korea), one thing is certain. The US military is not stretched too thin to bomb people. It seems we have spent way too much time trying to occupy. We could turn N. Korea into a lunar surface pocked with crater marks and not loose more than a few soldiers. Hell, we are well down the road with automated aircraft without pilots. We could just throw money at the problem and risk almost no US soldiers whatsoever. At some point, you'd figure Kim Jong ll would get tired of living in a pile of rubble and change would happen.

We're just a few generations of technology away from simplistic transformers. We just need to hire the Japanese to make our weapons.

IMV this is a terrible issue. N Korea is this bad ass rogue, dangerous nation. Basically China has protected their interests over many years. Russia has secondarily protected their interests.

Meanwhile this rogue, repressive nation has managed to build nukes and delivery systems. It answers to noone outside of its borders. Its immensely dangerous. It has thousands of missiles aimed at S Korea. It can deliver huge weaponry at Japan.

These are flourishing free nations with wonderful economies that have boosted their incomes and the lifestyles of their people. They are world contributors, relatively unnable to defend themselves...and the US has a level of responsibility to them....and to the rest of the world in that regard.

China has enabled this rogue @ss govt to become incredibly dangerous and unstabile. The N Koreans like to make money by exporting weapons. What a problem for the population of the world.

Domestically, nothing we have done has worked. We took a hard-@ss position w/ them during most of the Bush administration. It didn't stop the m-f*ckers. Then we took a softer position. The N Koreans got some aid...and then lied.

It doesn't matter what we do...they suck and are not to be trusted...and they simply remain dangerous...and amazingly well armed.

Its not an issue that involves the rightness or wrongness of American political beliefs on how to deal with them....because nothing has worked. They are an untrustworthy lying nation....and incredibly dangerous.

It bothers me. The Israeli's bombed the bejeebers out of hezbollah and hamas. The US bombed the bejeebers out of Iraq. All that bombing doesn't solve things, end a war, stop dedicated crazy's that have mischief and are well armed. N Korea has had decades to protect itself and its armor capabilities through decades of tunnel building. Hezbollah had far less time..but was dramatically effective in protecting itself against Israeli air strikes.

What a mothr f*cking problem. I wish China would step in and exerts its power to try and stem this crazy leader of N Korea.

It would be another catastrophe if this thing escalated and we needed to fight the N Koreans.
