check out the google word tracker or gtrends and find niche keywords for your topics without alot of competition and build from there
Google like fresh content, if you can be adding fresh unique content to you site daily, it will help alot.
For newbie website off-google advertising is key + content. you cannot take good positions at once. hard and hard work
Keep updating content daily is good for the site and Google to start frequently crawling. But m not sure this is enough to drive traffic.. need some off page optimization also
The best way to maintain daily traffic from Google is to first analyze the source of traffic and then optimize it. You need to install Google Analytics ( www.google.com/analytics ) on your website and track it over a period of a month. It will show the source of traffic. If most of the traffic is DIRECT / REFERRAL TRAFFIC like forums, directory then you need to improve on that part. If it's from SEARCH ENGINES then you need to see the keywords its coming from. Once you identity the keywords then you need to optimize your site based on those keywords. Basics is: 1. Look for Niche Keywords with high searches and low competition. 2. Build more unique content. 3. Do SEO ( onpage optimization and off page optimization) It's better to concentrate on traffic from search engines and improve on that part since you will get free and targetted traffic. It will take time sometimes 2-3 months or more but the benefits are good.
