3 letter dot com names - opinion needed

I've been noticing 3 letter dot com names recently, like GBS.com and DYN.com which sold for decent 5-figure sums.

I really don't know how good they are, I guess you could appraise each one individually but what is the general direction of these names?

There are some names going on different sites like NameJet and Sedo.com, e.g on Sedo now there are maj.com, juy.com, mwc.com ...

Any take on these names (non-words) as a gauge for 3 letter domain names?

I am also wondering what is the future of such 3 letter names as an alternative investment to keyword domains which seem really expensive now comparatively.

    Please advise, thanks!

Well...back about 5 years ago, these 3 letter .com names were selling for a few hundred dollars. Of course, at that time I didn't have the money to purchase any of them. Since that time, 3 letter .com's have been one of the best investments on the planet. The value for most of them has increased ten-fold as more large companies purchase names for their websites and the supply of available 3 letter .com's that can be bought and sold decreases. I still think that these domains are a great investment opportunity, but I doubt prices will continue to rise as fast as they did during the last few years.

Assuming you were to buy a name like MWC.com at a reasonable price and hold it for a few years, I expect you would at least double your money and maybe do much better if a large company came along looking to use if for their site.
