Hello members .. I'm looking forward to build a community at www.youtips.net youtips is an online article directory collecting tips and tricks in different categories .. The Idea is to seperate two communities , or more specifically two classes of members , Writers (or authors) and readers .. Writers will subscribe two a custom script (made by me) , and readers will be subscribed to a different cms .. So I'm trying to find out the best cms that fits my needs .. I will use only a well known cms , so I'm hesitating between Joomla and Drupal .. What is The best cms to handle my needs ? What I need is : - Community building : Forums , member groups , chat rooms - Yahoo answer like add on/Module - Feedback add on/Module - FAQ add on/Module Another question , is there a way to display some features in external pages using joomla or Drupal? Example , if I install Drupal in www.mysiteexample.com/community , can I display latest forum posts or latest groups in www.mysiteexample.com ??? Thanks for taking the time to answer me .. I appreciate it.
Joomla will do all the things you want. It has all the extensions available for it. goto extensions.joomla.org
Thanks for answering. I'm pretty sure that these two CMS can handle easily all the options , so actually I'm looking to find differences to help me choose the best one. I'm looking for more "professional answer" if I can say that.
It appears you have answered your own question, may I suggest you spend a little time with each as your decision will more than likely come down to personal preference between the two.
completely agree, joomla is stable enough with its extensions and you can do what you want. On the other hand you cant find extensions or themes for Drupal easily..
I go for Drupal, it is more many-sided and if you will add more functionality in future, it would suit better . wordpress is also good, easy to use
Drupal = secure Joomla = hacker bait If you like restoring from backup, having your site defaced - your gonna love joomla. If you like your sites secure, then go with drupal. We could go into the differences between the 2, but it really boils down to security. When your site is off line, you have no site.
See this detailed comparison of Drupal 6x and Joomla 1.5 series. Both of them would do that jobs, use Joomla if you are a beginner.
drupal is really good, but the bigest asset and problem for joomla is you have a zillion extensions/components/modules. those can really add to your site, but it also adds security issues. i am also going to start leaving out joomla in my meta tags. drupal is cool too. i know that's who you chose, but adding my 2 cents if someone comes across this thread.
