The nofollow depends on the individual search engine, but Google will not give you any link juice from a nofollow.

As I understand it you will get no link love from Google but I don't think they are useless as you might get some traffic- might. If you are trying to build your back links in google then I wouldn't avoid them I just wouldn't spend much effort on them as you have so many others things to do with your time.

The sites with nofollow links get less spam from webmasters, so there will be more visibility to the links you post, all things being equal you will trade SEO for traffic.

I read from Webpronews that there is no absolute guarantee that links in no follow blogs are completely useless. In my opinion though, if you are hard pressed for time, it would make better sense to concentrate more on building links in do follow blogs

nofollow links are not completely useless and when posted on a site/blog with good visitors, the link does provide excellent visibility and thereby make many visitors follow to your site as well.

Just an addition, does a nofollow directory listing is still good for the submitted sites?

If I get a sitewide backlink from this forum and it's nofollow, I won't care. I will still want that link (if price is correct). Nofollow links with high visibility can still be very useful.

No follow is still a link and it matters but you will not get a link juice. In yahoo they don't care if it's nofollow it always counts as a link.

My opinion? Nofollow links absolutely do factor into your SERP rankings in Google - they seem to treat the tag as "devalue", NOT "disregard" as many people believe.

Google says that they ignore the links, in which case I say "Who cares what Google says?". It never ceases to amaze me how many people buy into the crap that Google's talking heads feed them. They are NEVER going to tell people how to game them. Google does what's good for Google, and believe me, they have no qualms about providing misleading and outright false information.

The main point is that you have to think for yourself instead of trusting everything you read. Even if Google does ignore the links, it's not like they hurt you...

I agree with hobopon. I don't know what google means when they say they will not count them but from my experience they follow them. Well here is my personal rule for no follow. If it is the kind of comment that gets me on the side bar of a blog linking to me I would do it just to be on side bar and get some referrers. Also if it is a good article and high PR I would do a no follow too. A low pr and NA page I wouldn't not waste my time on it.

Also don't worry a link is a link it's not costing you anything.

Do you know the definition of "no follow"..?

What you just said is such a contradiction.

My friend, no follow literally means NO FOLLOW. Meaning that the search engine spiders will NOT follow your link. Hence, you will not be indexed.

The exact purpose of no follow links is to prevent you from being indexed....jeez..

I don't really care to much about the no follow thing. there are plenty of SEO experts that believe the links still count. They certainly count for Yahoo and MSN

He is kidding allright I guess. Well Yahoo rates no follow links too so if you want to rank good on yahoo I think those will be quite good apart from that I dont think you need anything.

I wont say no follow links are useless, if a blog gets good amount of traffic then you might get good traffic even if that blog is no-follow

We feel they are useless for building a PR if that is why you do it but if done in the right places they should build a good traffic witch in return can purchase your product or learn about your site and then in return they start linking and spreading the news about you good product - so nofollow links are fine from the right places and once again the SEO will always point back to your site content and quality - good sites will benifiet, useless crap sites are what they are .... just our 2 cents from what we have saw over time .... :)

They're useless for your PageRank, but no-follow links on High PR websites, can scare of people with a little SEO knowledge, when they try to beat you at your number 1 position in the rankings.
