So, I was watching this youtube video on society and consumerism and I really began to think about the ways in which our society has changed over the years, both for the better and for the worse. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nj8tCtsFags The video does a good job of juxtaposing some of the more romantic views we had about the past, with some of the more harsh realities. I was wondering what you folks thought about our current society and culture and the direction we are heading, in general. Better or worse?
Nice video, I watched it! (and funny too!) I liked the LOST reference as well, by the way. It's one of my favorite shows! In some ways I think things may be getting better, but a lot of ways it's getting worse too. Kind of a balance.
Society is progressing. People live longer, they're happier, they're freer. More people are in the middle class now than 20 years ago. Money doesn't make you happy...but it gives you things that can: health, freedom, leisure time. We're not working in the fields for 14 hours a day. We're not going inside at sunset in fear of the dark, to spend all night huddled around a fire. I also think the farther removed we are from religion, the better society will become. There is nothing after death, so make the one life we have the best it can be.
