As we all konw that Microsoft's next-generation web browser - the final version of Windows Internet Explorer 8 (abbreviated IE8) is released on March 19, 2009.

The new browser bring us many new features, improvements and unexpected surprise. Internet Explorer 8 is more standards compliant than any of the earlier versions.

The new features are Web Slices, Accelerators, and Search Suggestions for Search Providers. Big improvements have been made to AJAX, JScript, and Developer Tools, there are more features to be discovered.

Internet Explorer 8 is supported on Windows Vista, XP, 2000, 2003 and is freeware. Some features are similar to firefox and even more powerful. I had used for several months and no bugs appeared, the speed is faster than before.

So, in my view, IE 8 is more powerful than firefox. what about you?

Might be more powerful, but in terms of safety, Firefox will always win for me.

Firefox updates everytime they find a flaw, IE normally as part of the windows update, unless this has changed.

Does it support extensions like firefox?
I wouldn't use M$ IE for my safety. Almost all M$ products are sending feedbacks to their server. Use it at your own risk.

Havent tried IE8. Downloading it now. Will check it out. BTW firefox uses more resourses and cpu. Thats why it crashes. Least is used by Opera but again Opera has problems with animation and videos.

Not even a single browser wich is complete and up to the mark.

The OP doesn't know what he's talking about. IE8 is the worst browser on the planet. A virus magnet, technically incompetent, unable to follow most modern standards and practices including the "improvements" claimed in the post.

IE8 is 11 years behind ALL other browsers and shows no signs of competing. Microsoft already stated it won't support XHTML or SVG or canvas in IE9, and who knows when that will come out?

Get real. Use any other browser and be light years ahead of IE8.

Hi my name’s Feran and I am working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team to help provide assistance to folks about their Internet Explorer.

For those of you who stated concern about security, IE8 actually has many new and improved features including safety, making it a very secure browser. You can learn more about its security features here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/features/overview.aspx?tabid=1&catid=1

Or check out these articles reviewing IE8 security: http://www.pcworld.com/article/161587/is_ie8_actually_safer.html

    Thanks!

    Hi Feran,

I notice that when I ask you hard hitting questions you run away promising to return with answers but you never have....four times now. As you know, if you know anything, IE8 is the most insecure browser in the world and no securities person will advise using it. Though dated, see my link below for a real securities person and not some Microsoft article telling us how wonderful IE is.

I haven't tried IE8 nor have the inclination to do so...at least in the near future.

Btw..does it support extensions and plugins...just the way FF does? These features are a must for any modern browser....these days.

    Regards,

I know that firefox is more powerful.
FREE addons vs having to browse and pay for some IE addons.
Firefox vs IE in the virus department... we all know that one, IE attracts viruses like white on rice.
Oh an "accelerators?" Firefox has had those for long long time, this is just another of those ideas like tabbed browsing that Microsoft stole from another company.

If IE8 truly has something FF3 does not, FF3 can get that and more with plugins. So no, Firefox is still king of the ring.
