With $1k I'd buy more servers for our company. More servers = more services we could provide = more happy clients.
Did you receive $1k in startup capital for a project? If so, can you share additional details? If you simply want to know what one would do with $1k, I would purchase a ("used") Mac Pro for an iPhone development project.
I have 1k and its all I got too since im 20 only. Never thought of blowing it all up on the internet but yea, is it possible to somehow set up a website that nobody knows, buy traffic and make money off the adss on it? Is IT FEASABLE?
You could buy part of a company... learn the ropes... and the then eventually make a return on your investment
1. If you don't know SEO, go to seobook.com or get the DVDs from seomoz.org 2. Find a niche you really enjoy, you really have to love this cause you'll be doing it for years. 3. Buy a domain that is attractive to you and your friends related to that niche and buy all the basic tld (.com, .org, .net, .us, .biz, etc). Get a cheap hosting package from hostgator.com (under $10 a month) or similar. 4. Have someone design a template for you, you'll find many good designers here that will charge less than $100. 5. Set up your website, write your content (don't copy it, write it yourself), use what you have learned from #1 to optimize it. ---- You shoud still have a couple of hundred dollars---- Save them for you hosting and other things. 6. Sign up for an affiliate program related to your niche and/or use googld adsense. Or find any other way to monetize your site (sell advertising, etc) 7. Get your friends involved, ask them to help you promote your website in their social media accounts (facebook, myspace, etc) 8. Get a couple of t-shirts printed with your domain and use them in events (sporting events, concerts, at the mall) and ask your friends to do the same. 9. Work on your SEO constantly. If you are patient, you are serious about making money online, you really enjoy the niche and you keep your website up to date by the end of the year or early 2010 you should be making at least $1000 a month. From there on you only need to maintain and grow!
go to http://problogger.com and start reading from dusk until dawn. When you understand, you will know what to do with your money.
Nice post, but I would do a few things differently even if im a newb 1. Free info is available all over the internet I woudnt pay for it 2. There are a good number of quality free templates for blogs and are easy to manage via blogger.for 10$ a year you get your domain name and hosting on blogger, there are hundreds of free templates to download on ur blogspot. And do you really get 1000$ a month after a few months of having a nice layout, new good content every week and a domain?? sounds cool then
If you don't yet have a job and have a service worth selling, use the $1000 to market yourself. i.e., programming services, wireless network install services, car repair services, etc. It can be anything you're good at and hopefully word of mouth will help grow your business. If you do already have a job, then just save the money. Invest it in a high yield savings until an opportunity comes along that you can afford and that you think "feels right" to invest in.
If your willing to spend it all, invest in an established site, $1k is just about enough to get you into the game and depending on the niche you could start making a profit in a few months, even quicker depending on how hard you work. on start a new site, and purchase adsense advertising credits, or buy banners / links on established sites.
Hey there, I will invest the money in this way: 1) Think to my passions 2) Choose a good niche that suite my passions 3) Outsource a project to build a 100% original website (in my niche) 4) The website must have organic SEO and a free newsletter 5) Outsource for good web marketing campaigns In this way I have invested $700 or less and I'm ready to collect solid incomes forever. I can invest $300 on Adwords to collect profits in a short-time period.
@NormalAlex: Yes there is plenty of free information online, the only problem is that you never know which one to trust. You can see it here in the forums where most of the "recommendations" are outdated or completely wrong. If you are a complete newbie you might end up lost and doing some huge mistakes by only learning from free resources. I can only recommend SEOChat.com for a free guide, but it isn't organized as SEOBook or SEOMoz videos. As far as the blogger, if it is to run a complete website and not only a blog I would recommend wordpress, but that is a nice tip on a cheap option.
I would look at my skill set then I would decide how to spend it. If you can work, spend it on the areas you need help in. For example if you can write and you want to make a website, then use the rest for, for instance, the design and stuff like that. But then again you can simply go and buy a site for 1k.
Your not going to get very much of a server with only $1,000. That barely buys a good desktop, much less a server. ------------------------------------------ My primary type of site is a forum, so with $200 of that I would buy a vbulletin license. My primary promotion technique is video blogging. With around $400 or less, I would buy a good digital camera. You can get a good canon that films widescreen format for less the $300. So $400 should get you a really nice camera. With maybe $200, get some good video editing software. With the last $200, check into a good virtual private server hosting account. See if you can prepay a few months and get a discount. That should be everything you need to launch and start promoting your site.
with under 50$ you can get a webcam that does 30 frames per second. The product was even featured on an old video from stompernet.... hey and btw, I dont think that blowing your money carelessly will get you far.. you speak of 400$ as a piece of ...., for a starter every single dollar counts
$1,000 can be a very good start to a website. Get the site up and then do your researc in how to effectively advertise. you really can start a very very lucrative internet business with $1,000 do allot of research first like 2-3 months of research and planning before you invest into anything because without knowledge of advertising and business structure its pointless to start a business so take the money invest it in a cd for 3 months while you research before you do anything drastic
