Must I use the meta description for a page with one article?

What I'm saying about; I have a few articles that i'm going to add at our website. One article at one site's page. What is a reason to do using the meta description? I think, it would be better if google takes one part of my article as the article description. Please, me your advices.

It depends on how you want the article it be found. Personally I always use a description tag.

what Microdot is saying is right. If you wan the article to be found when people search for the relevant keywords.

A good method for this is to ask a question in the title and use your keywords in the title, then answer the question in the meta description.

example.. article is about giving up smoking, keywords = quit smoking

Meta title or title = How Can I Quit Smoking
Meta description and open sentence = Nicotine patches are proven to be the best way to quit smoking.
