You don't understand, it's not hate it's disdain or contempt for those who as adults continue to believe in fairy tales. I know that they have an excuse because their very young brain have been abused into believing, but they could grow out of it if they didn't try to reinforce it themselves as years go by. And the worst, still not hate, it's pity for their children who are also abused, someone should protect them but noone does a thing about it. Of course christian religion is not the worst of them all, they go dumber and dumber as more books pile up, so islam is the most stupid of all 3 main ones.
So you are admitting that they do cherry pick which bits they are going to believe.... is this a new tactic of yours? Pretend to be refuting something by pointing out how obvious it is? My examples were a bit more subtle than yours (following the bible when it comes to homosexuality and ignoring it when it comes to eating shell fish and working on the sabbath) but you pretty much agreed with me.
LMAO. Its only taken 200 posts and 15 threads to get you to admit this. Of course you admitting it and declaring you have been right all along is no surprise. To not "cherry pick" is called fundamentalism. I imagine most christian kids who go to church are not there for the bible studies but rather to get laid. A lot of older people go for a social circle. Others go because they need discipline in their lives. The most popular churches where I am from focus more on life management than bible study, but they do "cherry pick" bits of wisdom from the bible to drive their points home. It is church after all. I have never met a christian in my life who was unwilling to work on Saturday or Sunday because of the Sabbath. Ever. The problem you have now is how are you going to substantiate your other arguments about what haters Christians are for following old testament versus verbatim, if you are willing to admit they "cherry pick" only the "love they neighbor" stuff out. The two arguments don't sit well with each other.
Why wouldn't they be fundamentalists if they believe it's the word of god? That is the point. if they really do believe it, why would they do things they are specifically instructed not to, like eat shell fish or work on the sabbath, or, you know, pretend to be atheists?
"A usually religious movement or point of view characterized by a return to fundamental principles, by rigid adherence to those principles, and often by intolerance of other views and opposition to secularism." So again, why wouldn't they be fundamentalist if they believe it to be the word of god?
In other words, the more rigidly you adhere to every word in the bible, the more fundamentalst you are. One can believe it is the word of god without rigidly adhering to every single word. They are still Christians. Perhaps an easier way to describe it for you is to compare it to human sexuality. Although we tend to categorize people as homosexual or heterosexual, I've heard many describe sexuality not as a binary but rather a sliding scale. If that scale went from 1 to 100 with 1 being you are only attracted to the opposite sex and 100 being you are only attracted to the same sex, everyone falls somewhere on that scale. Quite a few "straight" people land closer to 50 than the number 1 and quite a few "Gay" people land closer to 50 than the number 100. Is a guy any less gay because he checks out a girls tits now and again? No, he still sucks cock on a daily basis. Is a guy any less straight just because he finds Barack Obama powerfully sexually attractive and fantasizes having sex with him? No, he still goes back and nails his wife, while imagining she is Barack. Hope this helps.
That was the scariest fantasy I have ever read. Get help. Please. Next thing you know, you will be drinking Pepsi.
I don't see how they can. I mean, surely, if they believe in a god and believe he wrote a book containing instructions they would following it, well, "religiously". even more so if they believe they will burn in hell if they don't. Their willingness to cherry pick this supposed "word of god" casts huge doubts over how much they actually believe what they claim. I'll ignore you attempts at outing yourself simply because i found it incredible creepy. But good luck with it.
Interesting. I watch the news every day and definitely have to "cherry pick" it. That doesn't mean I don't generally believe it. You know, the world isn't black and white. Some people really need to fit everything into a nice neat little box and it just doesn't work that way. I'd bet money you have been sexually attracted one of the boys at your school in the past. Ignoring those feelings doesn't mean they don't exist. I've always been a "straight" guy, and before marriage, I certainly did my best to "become fruitful and fill the earth". Hell, I'm pulling more than my weight right now with 5 legitimate kids. I'd go gay for Barack though.
assumedly you don't believe the news is written and presented by flawless, omniscient entities which torture you for disbelieving them. You are getting good at these flawed analogies. I think it may be more productive to discuss you homosexual tendencies and fantasies with your wife, not me.
You proposed the impossibility of calling oneself a believer without both believing and obeying every last word (fundamentalism). I demonstrated that could be done with the daily news. You changed the topic to strawman a belief the news people are god. Some surprise. Oh I could definitely fit you into my fantasies, though I suspect it would take on a more bondage motif. I'd fit you with a leather studded collar, a short leash, and a ball gag. I'd have my wife walk you around town as her pet, with you wearing only those items and a sign that said simply "Atheist". Brb.... sporting a woody.
did you seriously miss the point that i was referring to a belief in a god even though i endlessly stated it? Or did you intentionally miss it to give you an excuse to make a fatuous point? That was the point, they claim to believe an omniscient entity wrote a book containing instructions. So if they really believe that, why are so many of them cherry picking it's contents? Let me know if you need this point simplified any further.
