google -50 penalty

after and exhausting and sleepness night to find out the reason why my site of 6 years which has been consistently ranking for top 1st page was stuck at page 5 or 6th page, I would come to a conclusion that my site has been penalized by -50 -60 filter by google. The ranking dropped off the first page in one day ( since last week )..

The only thing that would trigger the penalization was over-done of link building/directory campaign for the past few months that I can think of. Other than that, there is a small footer on everypage which link to a reciprocal link exchange page with other websites, I have since removed that link just to be on safe side and I did file a request for consideration with google last week... BUT I don't think that is the caused of the problem since I have the footer reciprocal link since 6 years ago..

No changes in ranking so far until now, still stuck at page 5th or 6th, and to much to frustration after doing more research on the forum and web, nothing much information, other than wait...

But, I strongly believe that there is a solution to this issue and there is a way to get out of the penalization state, if you have experience such -50 penalization, feel free to share your experience and how you come out of it?

and if you are offering such service, do let me know.

I am in the same boat Mark. Some of my sites can't rank any higher than about #49 on Google. The link exchange could very well be part of the reason. Google does not like to see you telling other website owners to link to your site using specific link anchor text in exchange for a link. From what I have seen this penalty seems to hit thin affiliate sites more than others. I will be watching this thread to see if anyone has had success recovering from this.

    Hello...

Only a few have escaped the wrath of this penalty... or did the reconsideration and where lucky enough to recover a few months later.
You can "no follow" everything on the home page (template sponsors, links, and everything) as well as not link build for months and it
    wont change anything... :(

First of all, if you give your site's url, then it will be easier to see where the problem is coming from. Anyway, -50 is mostly to do with link exchanges and over-optimisation but the good news is that you can get out of it easily by undoing the thing that is causing the problem. There's no need for reconsideration request.

Your rankings could be back withing the next cache update (crawl and refresh) if you've made the right changes.

I also suffer from a similar problem. If someone thinks there is no such thing as a Google 50 penalty, I would say a big NO to them. It does exist. But it affects only very few sites. SO the find the exact reason what causes this penalty is very very difficult in my experience.

Artificial link building will earn you the filter.

It might not be lifted as they really do not want to do business with those who cannot follow the T.O.S. they have set out.

Your best bet is to find relevant related quality sites and try to build one way links to your pages.

    Good luck!

happned to me some time ago.

I had 2 reasons I could think of:

    1. I found link to my site on about 20 low quality pages. I have no idea how they got there. All the pages had links to same sites. I guess google found out about that sites and penalized sites they were linking to. I wrote to webmaster (domain owner) and he removed it.
    2. I didn't do any update to the site in few months. Maybe google thought that site was out of date.

After fixing both problems I came back in about one month.

I see spammy sites copying my titles with 100's of links linking to me, how can we combat that?
Does this mean that now it is possible to get your competitiors banned by submitting their sites to directories etc..

One of my main questions is what kind of directories did you submit to? Where these quality directories where every submission is reviewed (by a real person) to keep the spam out? Or, where these directories filled with links to spam sites?

Excessive reciprocal link exchanges are against google webmaster guidelines. The idea that "its been like that for 6 years" is flawed. The engineers at google are always working on ways to fine tune the search engine. So just because something has worked for the past few years does not mean its going to work right now.

Excessive link exchanges and submitting to spam filled directories do not put your site in good light with google.

When was the last time you read through the google webmaster guidelines? If you can not remember when the last time was, you might want to refresh yourself on the topic. You may want to read through the google webmaster question and answer forums. There should be a link to the forums in your webmaster tools.

And speaking of webmaster tools, have you checked your tools page lately for any messages?

Most of the time the answer to your question has been provided by google. If you still can not find what your looking for, find a blog by Matt Cutts - he works for google webspam division. You might want to read through Matts blog. He has some good information posted on his site. Its well worth the time to read through.

i got hit by -50 penalty, and I have observed some other website who was 1# become 51 position, due to too much link building, but then all of them recover after 5-6 months, and goes back to #1 or #2 position and best part goes to #51 again after too much seo and then return back to #1 or #2 after few months, just make sure you dont over seo and be patient

You have posted 5 million pages of original content? Where do you find the time? Or is this a really huge forum?

I am willing to bet there is more to the story then your telling.

I have a forum on one domain name, and my blog on another domain name. The 2 sites have around 7,000 links between them. My forum signature has a link to my blog in it, and my blog is heavily linked to my forum. This has been going on for over a year. Both sites rank on page 1 of google for their keywords.

If you got slammed by google, it was not because of 1 link.

What is the address of the site. Leave the www and http off the address so you will not be posting a link.

5 million pages, that is along the lines of yahoo, foxnews, CNN the BBC.

One of my sites was hit with the +50 or +60 penalty and one was banned. It's been 12 months. I've asked for reconsideration. Have no idea what happened.

    beforeyoutattoo.com - +50
    weightlossanddiets.com - banned

It did teach me not to put all my eggs in one basket as this was the 2nd and 4th websites I developed.

5,000,000 pages self linking probably did not help you.

Also you can never assume you have trusted rank with Google.

They do not write or call webmasters, and tell them they have trust established.

You may "think" one way, but Google usually thinks another way,
