Depends on your site really.
If you are a brand you can go with social bookmarking, press release, blogging, link bite.
If you are the next affiliate site - links, links links. Paid, rented, exchanged. Few authority links and a bunch of low quality ones.

 

I've always found that article writing has worked best for traffic, you have to write decent content though...

 

for me articles, forum posting and forum sigs work the best.

 

Unique articles are a nice way to start. Write something that is useful and interesting. Don't just write a vague article about any topic. No one will read / bookmark it.

If you publish videos on your site and submit video sitemap, you will
get huge traffic. No duplicate content issue too since SEs can read and

Pages with multi-tired links have been known keep their rankings longer, whereas pages with 1000 bookmarks will stay on page 1 for 2 weeks then disappear.

Don't go too fast. This can get you delisted. Keep your links down to a small number per day.

 

i think social bookmarking is better,,,not only can get backlinks from but also traffic...but don't spam please,,,it will hurt you..

all the techniques you mention above in your thread but very Important method is Social bookmarks, Press release, Forum Posting, Blogging to improve your site maximum amounts of traffic.

 

If you make it to the front page of a popular digg-like or even digg, then you'll get traffic.
If you can create a content that gets lots of links (called linkbaiting) then you'll get traffic.
If you can make lots of videos and have your url in the description and in the video itself, then it'll make traffic too.

 

I vote for article submissions and social bookmarking.

 

All the method which mention on your threat are really usefull, if you are looking for instant traffic, social bookmarking, press relise, blog post, forums psot are very much effective way to get traffic.
