I am thinking of getting a wireless internet connection for a laptop..(India). any suggestions? how is this "Tata Indicom's Photon+"... http://www.tataindicom.com/HSIA-service-personal.aspx
I am using Tata Indicom Plugtosurf connection since last few months. Its my stand by connection so whenever my main VSNL cable connection is out of service, i use it. DON.
I am using Budget 150 VData Plan which include 300 Minutes Data free per month. Not sure about speed as of now (maybe between 156 to 192 Kbps). DON.
What happen to your Reliance Netconnect ? Tata Photon+ is decent and u get speed around 300-400Kpbs.Do not go for Tata Indicom Plugtosurf as speed for this is too low, around 30-40Kbps. Tata Photon+ does not work in roaming.
If you want it for home only, get a broadband connection and use a wifi router+modem. If you wanna roam with it, get Tata Indicom Photon+. They have waived the national roaming charges.
I use Tata Indicom's plug2surf (connected thru my Walky Talky Phone) whenever my broadband is down. Plug2Surf is suitable for occasional use as they charge based on minutes of usage. Max. Speed is 156kbps only. But nowadays they offer upto 3.1Mbps for wireless connection (Reliance etc.). Maybe you could try that. Remember all the plans have bandwidth limit (even if they call it UNLIMITED plan!) If you exceed the bandwidth limit they charge you Rs.2 per additional MB - a quick way to spend money, isnt'it?
hmmm.... not even 25% of their advertised speed (they say upto 3.1Mbps) Are u sure roaming is not included. Because I remember seeing that it could be used in various cities throughout India. The 3000+ bucks for that device looks somewhat expensive. I guess it would come down in due course of time. Also it would be a good bet to get a night add on pack (10GB) for Rs.199 for your download needs and the regular pack for just browsing...
I think Tata Indicom has the best wireless internet connection in India. Other mobile service providers with GPRS are very slow.
I am not in India but i am using wireless router for laptop and wireless internet USB from Worldcall which is going superb ... Now its really easy to use internet anywhere PHYza
I don't mind paying 1800 a month to Reliance, but what I HATE is 10GB limit. I mean why say unlimited? Broadband sucks in India for sure!
