    Guys,
I have quiet interesting in setup and maintaining a linux dedicated and shared servers remotely. I like to study that. I have good knowledge in linux ( desktop ) administration. but dono how to setup a web server and dedicated servers.

I found many web sites, but those r very advanced and they r not in a order.

could anyone tell me a good free tutorial sites to learn it?

    thanks in advance.

There are many ways to learn.
    1. Install linux at home, if you use it everyday well then its going to be easier to learn some of the server commands as well, also if/when you install it don't be scared of terminal (learn to love it)
    2. Read, go on blogs (howtoforge.com), IRC channels (ubuntu has a great one) and just google read everything and anything that you can find.
    3. VPS server, bascially they are a dedicated server but just not as powerful, get one install apache, secure it and run some sites from it. That will help with the basics.
When it comes to linux it will take you a while to get used to but then a few years later you will love it :D
    best of luck!!

After you feel little comfy with Linux, next step would be getting an Unmanaged VPS, where you can actually try out things in real environment.

I myself learned in that way. I pay 10bucks a month for VPS, on it i host my own and some of my friends sites. books are not enough you need to try things pratically

If you want to become a paid server admin as suggested in your original thread. Don't expect it to come quick, it'll take you years (literally, ive got about 15 years of *nix admin experience). My recommendation is to constantly use a linux server (console only) to perform various tasks. Just give yourself busy work just to see if you can do it. Recompiling kernels, adding in modules, setting up firewalls, monitoring the server, reading logs, etc.

Everyone learns differently, I found books to be pretty worthless in my early days. Too much useless information and filler content so the author could sell a 500 page book instead of a 50 page one.

    I disagree with you!
basics things like Updating your box etc can be learned within 2-3months. and other things can be learned when required by reading man pages and google searches.

Sure, if he would like to administer his own boxes I could see that. But to become a paid linux admin, it'll take much much longer. Or clients will be asking him to do stuff all the time that he'll have no idea how to do, or asking him to resolve issues that he has no idea how to resolve.
