It does need some SEO, but for a social network site if successfull they usually promote them selfs and are well liked since content is continually upated by the users. One thing you may want to do is rather than using home in your navigation use keywords. This is called anchoring your hyperlinks with keywords and should not only be done with on site seo it should also be done with off site seo. It may help to give a little descriptive paragraph explaining what your site is and how it is diffrent from myspace and other social networking sites. Unless your going to attempt to beat myspace and the other social networking sites out of visitors, but this would be like building a search engine with the thought that you will over throw google which is very unlikely you may want to narrow your social site down to something specific and fit it into a niche like a social network site for business people or webmasters then you can advertsie towards a targetted audience and are much more likely to get to the first page of google.
