Breaking into the Top 10

I have a site which is about 15 Months old.

Which I am trying to break into the Top 10 for some fairly competetive keywords. Having started aggressivly optimizing and building links for it about 4-5 weeks ago I move from the 100's for most keywords .. to the edge of the top 10 .. I need to break into the top 10 but I am kinda stumped for ideas.

I am targeting several keywords, which are failry competetive (for me at least)

Key Phrase 1 -- Overture Searches 302 -- Google Rank 19 of 251 000 000
KP 2 -- 75 Searches -- #13 of 283 000 000
KP 3 -- 238 Searches -- #15 of 129 000 000
KP 4 -- 171 Searches -- #21 of 182 000 000

For about 2 weeks now .. I have been stuck in more or less the same positions .. I need your advice and suggestions on what to try to break into the top 10.

whats the single most important aspect to seo for google ... and the ill try it.

Just keep doing what you have been doing, just more of it.

 

Go to seobook.com and install the Firefox extension. That will tell you why the top 10 sites are better than yours.

 

Have looked at most of the top 10 using the SEOBOOK Tool I would have to say that there's not a lot in it.

As MattUK suggests, I think the best thing is to go back to more link building and trying to squeeze in a few keywords here and there.

 

Also take a look at who is linking to the top sites. Getting a link from an industry authority site can be worth a lot more than several smaller links from unrelated/untrusted sites.

SEO tips are hard to come by. As everyone else said, keep doing what you're doing, just more of it.

IMO, many people that get stuck outside the top 10 get stuck there because of a lack of quality content. You may want to add 20-40 relevant articles (all keyword rich and custom written - no syndicated) and link them from your home page to a directory called articles/ or something. This will help a lot.

 

Well looks like I was a bit hasty ... finally broke the Top 10 yesterday with two of the .. up as far as #3 now with one and #5 with the other. The other two are also closing in on the top 10, but I am still not happy .

MSN & Yahoo are just not following suit .. ranked #3 in G .. Y & M is in the 100's .. ranked number #8 in G .. Y & M are in the 80's.

Think I need to read the Y & M forum's maybe get some tips there.

 

Good to hear SEO is basically a long-term strategy. If you're moving up keep doing the same things and you WILL get into the top 10
