I hired this designer to do some work for me. He made 1 design and i paid him. He was always online and we talked so i trusted him. I had another design to be made and he asked if i would pay him early - $100 - because it was mother's day and he needed to get his mom a gift. So i did. I never heard from him again. Stupid on my part but hopefully he doesn't burn anyone else.
lol may be he is busy in other work...you can wait for him everyone need to keep active...i have made a logo last week for Affilunite site...he made a deal that he will pay 80$ for that and now he is using my logo on his site without paying me...i have send so many messages to him but dont get any reply still
dunno what to say these things are common on DP now everyone trying to scam people. even people with high itraders are doing this so basically itrader means nothing now. i have changed my policy to half of the money upfront & half after the buyer gives a thumbs up to the watermarked samples. Previously i used to ask for payment after the job. i think its fair to ask for half of the money upfront. Dunno what u guys think but i want to keep myself safe aswell. Best of luck tyankee
i agree kahara.. i have always used 50% up front and 50% when completed but this guy just gained my trust by being online all the time for weeks and we chatted almost daily.. it was a rush job also and he knew this.. but this time after he got my money, i haven't seen him online once and he doesn't answer emails for a week. i guess maybe he could have gotten sick or in jail or something but it still burns me to have lost $100.. it hurts all developers, myself included.. there should be a forum/website just for this.. in fact i think i'm going to start one.. anyone can post someone who's scammed them..
if only it were that easy.. this guy requested monies via western union and i figured it was OK since we did it this way before and i trusted him..
the problem is: designers actually have to do this pay b4 i work thing, since there are so many people trying to get free work. especially in the hiphop business, i work in. There are a lot of hustlers in this biz and they try to get the best they can to get everything for free. so i as a designer have to secure my self. on the other hand there are scamers, who dont work and run with the money. or even people how have work of others in their portfolio and then they run with the money... I have to go with 50% up front method. and no way imma change that. as a tip for clients i would say talk to people who have worked with the designer b4, though he can run always but the chances are lower if he already has clients that trust him. last but not least: pm me if you need gfx work done.
It his mother's birthday! He might be busy.....( or he might be busy scamming people to collect money till his mother's birthday actually arive. You can't really trust anyone on DP. That was second deal and I also assume trust. But in your case. Bad luck
Watermarking your graphics is a good solution. I always do that to the customers which don't pre-pay. Always worked.
You see that's why i don't pay up front, its doesn't matter if the itrader is 500..The best way to protect both of your is to let the designer or coder work on the project on his/her server when its done, give it a try and negotiate to transfer it to yours.
That's why you don't go head work on a project until you know the buyer is serious 4 sure. The 50% upfront is bad for some reasons..I always think once the seller receive the money he/she will take all his time before deliver the project, that's why i don't give anything upfront that will keep the seller focus, and get my project done on time.
