I hired this designer to do some work for me. He made 1 design and i paid him. He was always online and we talked so i trusted him. I had another design to be made and he asked if i would pay him early - $100 - because it was mother's day and he needed to get his mom a gift. So i did. I never heard from him again. Stupid on my part but hopefully he doesn't burn anyone else.

Thanx for sharing, guys. I think, sooner or later it happens to everyone who is doing business online. I hate to say, but when it comes to business, you shouldn't trust but rather do business, which means - product/service first, and the payment is upon delivery. Since you started this thread, I am gonna add one more scammer that cost me $170. Stay away from him - he will waste your time, telling you stories that he has no money nor time so that you feel sorry:D

unfortunately, it's not the case. Simple because they know, that PayPal won't be on your side unless you will provide a tracking number. And as you understand, there is no tracking # for services, such as web design, for instance. The only way to protect yourself is to pay after the service was provided. For example, in my case I lost $170 which was only 50% (downpayment). The guy is a simple jerk, promised to complete the project within a month, 2 months later I finally gave up as he never actually started working on it. I never received anything from him, not even a single draft. And PayPal was useless as I didn't have a tracking number. I have 6 y.o. PayPal business account and I use PayPal every single day for doing business, but they make THEIR life easier, not ours. They though added me more benefits for the account, but who cares if I have to lose MY money?

I wonder why don't you open a case against him in paypal...
If you paid him through PP only...

The thanks i get from DP is an infraction for starting this in the wrong category.. I guess this just adds insult to injury.. I am trying to be a good citizen by warning people about this guy in the forum that he hangs out in and where he found me.. So you give ME an infraction and move the thread to 'general chat' where no one will ever see it who might be looking for designers.. Sheeeeshh.. :(

This thread is belongs to GC so mod moved it here and don't worry as members visit GC as well so your intension to warn other members about that guy is fulfil very well here IMO.

BTW i assume that you have already raise a dispute against him at paypal to recover that funds as well as given him negative iTrader here.

    DON.
