Norway won the 54th Eurovision Song Contest early Sunday in Moscow, when singer Alexander Rybak beat 24 other contestants in the Russian capital. Rybak's song Fairytale won with 387 points, beating Iceland with 218 of points and Azerbaijan with 207 points. It was the third time Norway has won the competition, one of the most watched television shows in Europe every year. Rybak, a 23-year-old ethnic Belarussian who grew up outside Oslo, had been the pre-tournament favorite and he wooed and charmed the crowd with his singing and violin playing in the final at a stadium built for the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games. Yes it is official, Norway wins Eurovision song contest with a song titled fairytale. I just have one thing to say: If you ever want to win any contest, win like Norway. They actually suppressed the second place with about double of the points, beating the record that has ever been seen on the eurovision song contest since its creation. Cheers Norway!!
Just watched it. I think it was obvious from early on they were going to win as they just kept getting 10's or 12's all the time at first. The UK did quite well this year for a change.
I've read that many of the countries want to do well but do not actually want to win the contest due to the cost of having to stage the event the following year!
I thought the winning song was pretty disappointing, though I think that every year. As always, a criminal result which I can only ascribe to vote rigging at the highest levels; The voting bit still has massive political voting. The creators keep saying they want to make it a music contest so don't have the public vote get judges from the music industry outside of continental Europe to vote and judge each song individually.
