I would like your opinions on this please. Is it best to build backlinks to your homepage only or both your homepage and your important content sections. What is your views on this, I personally am doing the latter. Thanks.
The idea is to make links look as naturally as possible .. So different IP addresses, Different site pages and different anchor text will make the link building more natural .. so more SE friendly Toon
If you concentrate on your "landing page" only and all the links will be pointing there, search engines will be suspicious and think that you're trying to manipulate them. Also, deep linking (linking to internal pages) is good for you overall Page Ranking. You inner pages, as they link to your main page, will pass on its love (juice) to that page, bringing up the value of your main page.
you're referring to deep linking, which is an absolute must for any successful campaign. you will find a significant percentage of your traffic comes to inner pages, and rankings for these are easier to obtain as competition is usually less for long-tail keywords.
You should create backlinks to other web pages, but focus more on your home page. I would say at least 25% to 30% of your links should be to your homepage, then 70% to 75% to other pages on your site
It is advisable to do a bit of both. Backlinks to home page is generally advisable when placing links on a site is done by you with sole intention to advertise your site. Links submitted via article submission and other places to attract traffic, should have links pointing to the relevant topic of your post, so that visitor is directly served with whatever he/she is looking for! One should also have good interconnection between the main page and inner pages as this helps traffic getting routed well to all important places in your site. Regards, RightMan
You are doing absolutely right thing in my opinion. You should build links to your other pages also, other than homepage.
Thanks for everyones responses, is it a good idea to submit internal deeper links to directories as well as the homepage?
You should really build most of your backlinks to your homepage but also build a few to important content. You don't want your site being top heavy though, with all your links on pages of your site and not many going to the home page. The main thing is to get one way backlinks that are permanent and on related sites.
What if you only have a landing page? Could you create yourdomain.com/blog and pust a blog there with all links to yourdomain.com
i was surprised when i checked out the google webmaster and saw the links that others had for my inner pages. i've done a little bit of that myself, that's another problem with the directories most of them direct the link to the main url the homa page, unless there are deep link options, and then i jump on those. so it ends up that 70% or more of my links go to the main page, i guess you could say that's where it concentrates. i wonder how other people's backlinks break down to, have any of you checked?
If you link to your homepage only, but your site has diverse content, I suppose that you'll have to do deeper linking to pages that have the keywords you want to score for. Unless you manage to have every keyword of a diverse site on your homepage?
It is advisable to create the links for the targeted pages on your site.If you consider that all the pages are important then you can build links for all the pages as you wish.
that would depend how your inner pages are designed. if you have one specific topic covered on one inner page which is once of your targeted term, then you will need to build backlinks to those inner pages as well. but if all your keywords are on the homepage, then inner page link building is not needed
