prefered domain name

How long does it take for google to pick up that I swithed to the preferred www.?
I did it a week ago but google is still shows me Indexed at the NON WWW. Version

 

make sure your redirecting your NON www. to your www.

 

It might take up to 10 days.

 

I'm still trying to figure that out,,I'm using Go DADDY and new to all this,,when
I figure it out how do I know it was done Right ?

 

use the following code in your .htaccess file. just replace example.com with your domain

 

It depends on the amount of backlinks and quality to depict how google sees your site which is how they decide how often to update new content. Usually changes for me happen within two days.

 

when choosing my prefered WWW., I did that in google webmasters ,,,,did I need to change anything with Go Daddy?

Also I don't see where I can put this redirect file , google webmasters or on Go Daddy ,,the only thing I see in Go Daddy is a forwarding and masking ,,also in Go Daddy my site looks listed as just a Non www.url ...as Stated do I need to change that too?

 

Simply upload a .htaccess file with 301 redirect, that's it!
Or you can also set the option at the hosting pannel like dreamhost.
