Let's say I want to have a link on my homepage to a gaming site. I call the link games. Is it okay to link to others and not use their company name in the link? I wouldn't think this would be a big deal. It's free advertising for them. Right?
You could contact them just to check if they are okay with it... But yeah, I think it would be okay...
hmmmmmm why would any body have problem when someone links to his site?!!! unless you have a porn/illegal site
(quote)It's free advertising for them. Right?(/quote) yes it's free advertasing for the web owner...it's better to you to tell to the webmaster and ask to link to your web too.
I was not sure what you were getting at in the beginning but it sounds like you are putting up a link in hopes the other sites will link back to you, right? I am 98% sure the other site will love you linking to him-BUT- I am nowhere near as sure the other site will give you a link back. It is certainly worth a try, couldn't hurt but I would suggest you see if the other site is interested first, simply to save you the time of putting up the link and then having to take it down if the other site says No Thanks! I know some site owners throw up the link first and then ask. I am too lazy, I would ask and them throw up the link- and I am a skeptic as reciprocal linking is not favored, but that is another post.
Most people are fine with you linking to them. it is only under very rare cases that people get angry that someone links to them (for example they are crazy) so go ahead and post that link
Thanks for all the great responses. It's pretty straightforward but I just wanted to be sure. The links are information for the users of my site that may interest them.
Free advertising, anybody that rejects a free link is going to be out of this industry pretty quick If they have some policy against it they can contact you about it at their own discretion.
No problem in linking out to them. but you could contact them just to check if they are okay with it...
