I was wondering whether topix.com can be used for link building and traffic? If yes, then how?

Stumble Upon is ok but most of the traffic you get from there is untargeted. Pretty much useless because most people usually won't be interested in your topic, especially if it's "nichy".

One thing I do at SU is pm members that have an interest in a site I may have designed or even a cool new page on my site.

Some members only accept PM's from their friends.

Some SU members use SU to blog. If they are interested in your webpage or site they might post a link to your site.

Try to post one back it helps gain popularity in the community.

SU is not the only or the best but I try to get good back links anywhere I can. Leave no rock unturned. ;)

    Peace,

    Herman

thanks to everyone who gave some different suggestions in this thread - I think another one to keep an eye on at the moment, even though the links are nofollow is google knol ;)

I prefer using Squidoo to promote content and websites and build lenses for people both for personal use and as well as commercialization and to increase their keyword density.

Well... You can get a do follow link still with Squidoo pretty easy. One of the modules when added (can't remember which one off hand) will be do follow links. :) Hubpages on the other hand are different and the only way to get a do follow link (to my understanding) with a hubpage is to get it's rating up high enough (believe 75).
