I have heard alot lately on the importance of quality inbound links. How do I decipher what are poor and good quality?

Good quality links are links from authority sites lik dmoz.org, Yahoo, .EDU, .GOV, Wikipedia, major news like New York Times, Globe and Mail, etc.

Good qualiry links usually have at least PR5.

PageRank is not an indication of quality.

If you search "site:www.domain.com" on Yahoo you will see that high PR pages are coming first (usually), so it seems that high PR pages usually have high rank also in Yahoo.

The best indicator of quality is traffic which links is giving. The second is PR. If you have better measure, please let me know.

Your comment "Good qualiry links usually have at least PR5." is misleading as foolbar PR is not an indicator of Quality.

    This with PR is stupid.

    When I look for backlinks.

I look how site or page stands on serps for their common keywords, look if it has related content, look their outbound links, look their BL's and thats it.

Just look that site doesn't link to bad neighbourhood and with that you will see everything, is it a good site or crap.

    I agree with that.
I don't think PR weight much.
Good quality links are those from authoritatives sites, those from domains like .edu or .gov, and those from pages/sites with good content (not generals directories, MFA sites...), closely related with your content. In any cases, the best way is to avoid bad neighbourhood and crap site, doesn't matter theirs PR.

Yeah, but site in your signature for its keywords you use here is not in the first 100 in Google. Should I say... it doesn't rank it is not quality.

I must say that I agree with you how we could recognize quality site, although it needs much more time than to look at green light in toolbar.

I wanted to say that quality links tends to have higher PR.

Although, a lot of people on this forum means that I'm giving more value to PR than I should. Probably they have right :).

Indeed PageRank is nowadays misinterpreted about their importance.
Not always high PR is equals to good quality links. There are lot of crap sites that has PR5-6 because they spend $$ in order to get links from higher PR sites.

Good quality inbound links are links that came from established sites. Also a relevant links is the best inbound links from you're sites.
