Is $9.95 too much to ask for a paid directory ??

Over 80% of the submissions submitted are either MFA or just affiliate links?

If the owner of the site is earning some nice money from their site, is asking $9.95 (permanent link) for paid submission is too much? (Obviously no webmaster would make nice money if isnt a worthy site)

I believe it is the good decent fee for so much of the hardwork directory owner makes in reviewing such sites.

what directory owners think? Is $9.95 too much to ask for? (atleast for a good PR 4 directory)

I get 12.95 for my paid directory and have no problem making sales. It's a PR4, with the latest toolbar exports PR for fairly new directories isn't really rock solid anyways.

I know what you mean, I want to keep my directory free but the numbers of MFA sites that I have been receiving lately (since it turned PR6) maDe me think of charging a 2$ "stop spam" fee but then I am afraid that people wil continue submitting MFA and just ask for a refund once rejected which means double work for me.

Back on topic, I believe that 9.95$ is very reasonable.

its not about money or free ones, what i am very sick of is people submitting crappy/spammy sites. Given the submission is free, no directory owner would reject a good resource site and nicely presented.

even frustrating is people submitting, multiple inner page links. I often wonder that because of these spammy/crappy submissions causes most directories turn to paid ones.

Most of my directories are $9.95 and for the most part people don't seem to mind paying the fee to be listed.

I have another directory just for MFA sites I'm experimenting with and charge $1.75 to be listed. Needs promoting, but I get a few takers from the ones I reject from from my other directories. Maybe if it catches on, I'll raise the price.

I charge $8.95 for my directory listings and I have a PR6 with all internal PR5 pages, so no, I don't see an issue charging 9.95 for links.

I charge 1.99$ in one of my directories and I don't have many customers. But I also must take in consideration that 2000 links in there there is. What does it depend on actually? What do people look at when submitting links?

I have fixed regular links at $4.99 and featured at $29.99. both are permanent. My directories are well presented and I have formed a web directory network to begin with... Work a lot myself to boost traffic and promo. And I'm getting decent sales...so $9.95 isnt high if you have a PR4, presented well and work on it...

I think that 9.95$ is a fair price - provided you have a SEO friendly directory, permanent links and a good page rank

$9.95 for a permanent link? Isn't that just a cheap text link ad?

Wouldn't you be better off doing an annual review of the site to ensure that it is still relevant to the category, and charge an annually recurring review fee? That way you help to maintain a quality directory, and you position yourself to implement a real business model.

fair price but i think general directories dont have a long future mainly if you are adding (MFA) websites .. 1 way link to a bad websites will always hurt ..

I agree with Mister Charlie. I am going to start a directory but I certainly don't want to have a "forever" link for only $9.95, especially if I have to check it every few months or so for decent content. Perhaps I'll have trouble asking for more since the going rate seems to be giving it away, but that'll be my learning process, I guess.

what i have observed is people dont like annual review fee. it seems they all want just to submit onetime and then forget it.

    I would pay $2.99 - $7.00 to get into a directory.
