So i was with HostGD for about 2 months, didn't get my VPS online fully working for about 3 days, which then after that it started working fine after they reloaded it. Now, Suddently, 24 hours ago my VPS went own, so i opened a ticket..saying that. So they said the DC was investingating it. Next morning (today), i received a email saying They have mistakenly, taken my VPS offline, well deleted it, how the feck could they "mistakenly" do that huh? Freakin have the cheek to say they'll be creating a new one shortly, and ALLL my data was lost, years of hard work as a freelancer, i built some scripts, took a while. Had alot of custom, $100s+ sites, all...just "deleted" and many sites starting to pay off after alot of work, and working into the night. Yeah, know, you'll say "i should of backed them up, my own fault" i would agree with you, since i did backup ALL my sites, however just installed ubuntu yesterday, which then deleted my whole windows OS, therefore only backed up login details etc on my PEN, since it can't hold much data. I'm just so pissed off right now, all my sites are gone, no backups...as it wsas actually yesterday which i installed a new OS. Feel like giving up webmastering completely now.
I know i used to advertise for HostGD, (Actually i need to update my sig), I'm no longer affiliated with the company however i do have contact with those that do now. The blame for this should be pointed at BurstNet, not HostGD, During an audit for HostGD some servers were cancelled, (Ex clients etc) and the facility cancelled the VPS node and took it offline by "Mistake". I'm not fighting the corner for GD or anything here just putting across what ive heard.
+1 that BurstNET sucks. my friend's dedicated servers were wiped without warning: http://r00tsecurity.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=8945
NO BACKUPS is a serious concern!! Updating the OS shouldn't be an excuse for your own carelessness, you should have at least taken it to your flash drive until restored on the PC after the upgrade. Having said that, I am sorry about how HostGD handled your case..
I do understand now, yes it is most probably burstnets' fault, however..they must have some dumbasses working for them, if they are stupid enough to go around wiping servers. @ fahadhassan, yes i do understand its partly my fault, however i only had a drive pen, which can only hold 128mb, therefore a database would just fill it up.
