    Hi

I am about to start a non profit Christian website and I want to know how far the domain registrar affects site performance. My current registrar is 1and1.com . I am confident about the hosting provider but I need to know whether I should transfer the domain to another registrar before the site goes live.

.com domains costs around 10 dollars..

you can purchase domains from godaddy.com, enom.com, uyuyuyhost.com

It is better safe than sorry when in doubt.
If your site doesn't rank well you will always be wondering if this issue would cause it.

i think it is essential to register domain before start even a charity website, many websites offering cheap and good packages (search through internet).

I register all of my domains with godaddy and then just point the DNS to my host. Makes it easier to have them all in the one spot especially if you feel the need to change hosting providers.
