This craft should be made available to every enterprising Indians wishing to sail the galaxy to export our civilization.
    India's Avatar Space Craft

Chinese are secretly working on this propulsion system, EmDrive. DRDO/ISRO should put couple of Billions of dollars and greatest Indian minds to invent Space Propulsion system like EmDrive before the Chinese do.

    Jai Hind.

Full benefit of India Avatar Spacecraft is outlined here http://www.technologyreview.com/computing/19115/page1/

Avatar Spacecraft is for space industry what is Tata Nano for auto industry.

You can easily send satellites to harness sun solar energy and convert it to microwave and beam back to Indian Base station. We are looking at endless energy supply 24/7 light up India for years and years. No need to depend on oil or nuclear energy. This can probably harness power of 10-100 of nuclear power plants put together.

Helium-3 mining in the Moon possible.

    Topol-M on steroid.

Potential is limitless. Indian scientist are surely looking and dreaming ahead. Now if they can bring EmDrive to reality, we are looking at traveling to Mars in 41 days. Gosh, in 25 years India will look like it has been for 10,000 years. Many look at India with their 20th Century eyes. 21th Century is looking good. Go India Go!

You are an optimist brother. But what you are claiming is impossible to achieve.

What kind of satellites and how large would they be? Has anyone else converted microwaves into electricity? Could you link to an whitepaper explaining the concept?

India is a poor country. There aren't enough resources for the super-large population. Do you realize how tiny ISRO's budget is compared to NASA? They're absolutely small.

Just because you may build an EmDrive engine does not automatically mean you can send man into space. The logistics of putting a man in space are mind-boggling.

I'd recommend you first read a book "Man & Space" by Arthur C. Clarke. Only then will you understand that space travel is just a fantasy.

There is no whitepaper on the internet. All forms of energy are transformable to different forms. Microwave is another form of energy. Scientist know what they doing.

It's not about the budget, it's about somebody taking an initiative. Germany was broke when it churned out so many inventions after their economic collapse.

EmDrive is possible. Matter of putting the greatest mind to work together. Even on shoe string budget greatest mind can do marvelous things. EmDrive gives you the ability to take off and land vertically. This is very much need in India which lacks adequate roads and infrastructure. Once you can take off and land vertically who needs roads.

It had to happen. We have religious evangelists, political evangelists, why not India evangelists?

    Coming China Space Wars

Space war is here. It would be a reality in 100yrs or 50yrs. Chinese always plan and think for really really long long terms. China and India resource constrained countries and space is a natural place to go.

India should be really concerned about it as much as the Chinese. Space war surely will break out with China and India. Only matter of time. If India and China goes to war in space who can India count on? Only the Russians. So Russians scientist and our Indian scientist should work on this EmDrive on cooperative effort to bring to fruition.

India and Indians shouldn't bow their heads to Chinese or anyone, even to the West. India should pursue its own self interest for the betterment of its people. We are on the verge of testing our version of Topol-M that can hit any point on this planet. Then why should Indians be afraid to say fu... off to the Chinese, UN or the West when pursuing Indian's self interest?

Indians shouldn't worry about comments like GeorgeB. GeorgeB will proudly drive his automobile on the highway in the future, while China and India fly on their SpaceBoat. And to those on the SpaceBoat, GeorgeB will look primitive. ;)

You guys talk about spaceships but who is advanced? Why not look at telescopes? Especially The James Webb Space Telescope. That's what I call news

If we walk alone, without the support of other countries, we will not succeed. There is no such thing as self-sufficiency. We need massive cooperation between nations on a global scale if man has to leave his "cradle" behind.

Brahmana, if you really want India to succeed, then talk the language of international cooperation. There aren't enough resources on our planet to enable us to colonize space. We may probably never leave earth.

There are billions of planets in this universe. There could be millions of them that could support life. There could be hundreds of thousands of these planets bursting with life and jungles. There could be a few thousand such planets where we could find intelligent life, probably more ancient than outs...

If it were possible to colonize other planets and travel in space, then surely we could observe these extra-terrestrial beings visiting us. Surely they must have left their signs in space so that we can find them. But there is nothing...

So this means that "Space Travel" is just a sci-fi myth. We can never achieve it.

Brahmana, you may want to check out the article http://philosopherspeashooter.blogspot.com/2008/05/fermi-paradox-as-exercise-in-social.html . It is an interesting article. The author believes if the entire planet pools its resources, only then can we make it to the other worlds. I'm sure you'll enjoy reading it...

    Cheers! :D

Interesting concept. Just because our specshuttle program failed doesnt mean that someone else couldnt build one that is cheaper that worked more efficiently. Though the only places we can colonize are mars or the moon. To reach other planets that are habitable we have to travel to other galaxies and the only way we can do this efficiently is by Traveling at the speed of light. Light travel not only is quick at 186,000 miles per second but it also has an effect on time itself slowing the passage of time for the passengers making it possible for them to travel light years without aging much.

Using the word "colonize," to my mind, seems to be bordering hype and pure hype. Well, I've heard a lot of this kind of overstatement.
