There is No software that will help in a decent DDoS attack, you need a hardware firewall for that.

Its worth getting a hardware firewall, local software firewall won't do much against a full dDOS attack.

hardware will protect you to a point. firewall will be useless if you don't have HUGE bandwidth. and you need 24/7 firewall monitoring to do filtering. Your connection will still be flooded and bandwidth maxed out.
I recommend getting a dedicated server from hosting company which has very expensive hardware and huge bandwidth to help you do anti ddos. Private message me if you want to know some

firewalls are not always pointless depending on the amount of traffic.

very expensive hardware is not going to make a difference.

Huge bandwidth? Doesn't make sense, dDOS attacks WASTE bandwidth - The bigger the pipe, the more water can flow through...

anti dDOS is made up of a number of methods.

    - Null routing IP
    - Hardware Firewall ACL's.
    - Hardware Firewall PIS ( packet inspection service )
    - DC router level filtering
    - mod_dosevasive ( linux )
    - Drop flooding packets.
    - Legal action against attacking upstream provider.
    - Take down botnet/attacking box.

Mis informing someone of anti ddos can be fatal to the clients website.

You should talk to your host and see if the floods have some kind of signature that can be flagged on their end.
