Hi my city is CORRUPT . . . I am a "city slicker" new to this BACKWARDS southern city and state of Ridgeland Mississippi there are certain things that have been going on which I can not take any more. I have tried to speak with the mayor and board but they do not care to hear from the citizens. I am half way decent at SEO and feel I can beat them in the search engines . . . BUT I would like to know what I can NOT say. For example the definition of slander (which i will research on my own) but what kinds of things can they take action on me against. I would like to teeter the line AS CLOSE AS I CAN with out going over. PLEASE help me in understanding what I can and can not say, I will only speak the truth or what is on my mind/opinion but with being emotionally wrapped up in the situation it is easy to go overboard so I would like to know what I can and can not do THANKS FOR YOUR HELP !
Usually where there is corruption, there is money, and a lot of it. I would be careful in such a small place, "outing " the corruption of city officials online. When you mess with people's money, and point the finger, people tend to feel backed in a corner. I am sure if they are truly corrupt, they have done some things to people to keep it that way and protect their financial interest. My advice, would be to gather as much information to prove it, and just let the FBI handle it. That is what they do.. they police the police. You can get away with being a whistle blower in a big city (most times) because of all the witnesses, but in a place like that....no one will know you are missing, or care, for quite some time. But if you must....make it into an editorial type site, and let it be known that you have no proof, it's just your opinion, unless you have proof, then of course post it. But I'll be honest, I wouldn't "F" around in a place called "Richland Mississippi"...most people outside of the south have never even heard of it, and I'll bet a few in MS too.
I couldnt agree more. Your city officials have been doing some shady things to people in order to stay in business.. On the other hand, one man against tyranny won't do much good unless you can spread the word. I would be very careful in your endeavor. Never create a pattern of travel, and always let your friends and family know where you're at. So long as its the truth that is backed by proof, it is NOT slander. After all, it is no insult to call a corrupt man corrupt.
Believe me, I have felt, (and still do feel) the same way about certain Police Departments, and their habit of making up crap to throw people in jail for a few days...only to have no charges pending after missing 4 days work. The disgusting part is...nobody who can do anything about it cares, because it doesn't happen to them or their family members. Just be careful not to cause undo damage to your lively hood, or worse.
WOW those are SERIOUS posts, and I appreciate those great truths/facts. And also that I should be careful of the line I draw along with the attention that something such as this may bring. I appreciate the words of wisdom. And will definitely keep this post in mind when working on the site. The good news is I am in the process of moving back to the city in which I came, but at the rate these political goons work . . . it possibly wouldnt be fast enough if I were to create such a site. So maybe I will put this project aside until I am back where I am "safe". Thanks again !
Hey, when ever I get wronged or treated like crap for no reason, the first thing that comes to mind is "I'll flood the internet with so much bad press, they won't know what hit them". We have all been there, but every situation is not worth it.
That is exactly how I feel sometimes . . . it is a gift sometimes, yet the same talent even when used to the webees benefit can be turned against them. For example, I was thinking " You may have one in real life, BUT watch what I can do on the internet LOL " its a hard line to walk, because like stated I can as well as many other designers DESTROY what some one else has worked hard on for their whole life in a matter of weeks and links . . . but then you have to think what will be the reprocussions of "destroying" them through the internet . . . - DEVILISH LAUGH -
I would get a new domain for the project. Something that could be sold afterwards. Rather than be confrontational, just tell it like it is. Let the reader decide for themselves. The offical site for Ridgefield has sitelinks and it's doubtful that you will bump them from #1. Most likely the site was manually seeded.
HEY BOGART ! so I took your idea . . . i ended up buying www.MyCity-MyState.com I think it is a better idea for one like you said, for resale and two maybe I was being a little negative. So I am going to turn the original one into a forum and use the new one for the purpose the other one was going to be meant for. So at least if the city goons want to buy me out and shut me down I WILL ASK FOR A WHOLE HEAP OF MONEY the city I live in actually is not that bad, it is the city officials that SUCK ! but i know those same people wouldnt have liked a site that said that about their city which is why I initially bought it. But I think the new route is a better route also even EASIER to get ranked if not #1 at least right under them - THE DEVILS GRIN -
You might be able to monetize that site, making it a dedicated site to report corrupt officials to which users can add their state/county/city and a report --> kind of like rip-off report but only for crime syndicates

Good move foward! At the minimum you can sell the domain -- www.MyCity-MyState.com -- after some agressive link building. You may have better luck targeting the one word kw ridgeland or ridgeland ms
I was thinking the same thing. It wouldn't be that hard really. After a bit of link building, some SEO tergeting keywords such as corrupt and officials and report. This is something that is needed really. And you could, in turn, forward things to the FBI for investigation. We all saw with IL what happens when the FBI gets wind of corruption
Hi I didnt go with privacy, because the mayor/dictator is the one that the site stems from. And the reason I feel he is corrupt for one reason is a judge and him have passed several ordinances that violate multiple civil and human rights. So with that being said it is not that hard for him to get a court order and for my regristar to be forced to devulge the info. also when they see the site, they will know exactly who is behind it LOL as I have tried to speak with him a few times about the specific situation at hand. HEY PS your words site is @#%$in cool !
thats exactly what i thought, because who knows but the big G algo may have caught on after certain sites like PayPalSucks and so on
thats not a bad idea . . . I was also going to be my own private investigator, and see what my dictator is doing that he doesnt want the rest of us to know about. But one could only imagine the thin line that is between a PI and a STALKER.
