I always say forget those tutorial. Pick your niche wisely do your homework on it, study it like a test thats coming up to get you to the next grade in school. Then when you add adsense remember that what may work for the other guy and may not work for you. You must experiment see which ad is best where the placement of the ad is best, this does not happen overnight it can take a while before you get it right. This is what I have practised on some of my sites. To further more I have one site that had blended ads match the color of the background, guess what I did not get many clicks on it, I changed the ad to as default without matching colors just the white background I tripled the clicks on it because it stood out like a sore thumb but it worked. So experiment, experiment thats my tutorial.

Of course traffic is the only secret, and then high paying topic, but popular topics are not often high paying topics. So popular topics with an optimized ad placement in order to have the best CTR you can within user friendliness limits. But excellent ad placement without traffic is worth nothing.
Traffic has to be the big one. The percentage of visitors who will click on ads is relatively small so you need big traffic to make any money. The other things to consider are the ad filters. You dont want ads from websites that compete directly with you. Rather you want them from sites that are complimentary to yours. Positioning is also important. No point putting them on a page with relatively few visits. The only grip I have about adsense is the fact that you are not allowed to open them in a new window so when someone clicks on them it takes that visitor away from your site. I guess Google uses this as a selling point for the people paying to advertise, but it seems a bit old hat given that all browsers now use tabs.
In that case, if you can get quality traffic and a good niche, then affiliate marketing becomes easier. I spend most of my time on developping adsense revenues because I find it hard to get quality traffic who are in a buying mode and for which I could provide affiliates links. I find it easier to just get traffic on whatever topics I'm discussing in any one page, and then some people click on adsense, some not, but I can earn money like that and I suppose advertizers on adwords earn money too with those people who click on my site's adsense. It's just that I don't have to get quality traffic in the first place, I don't need to hand pick the affiliates programs either.
There is no real secret about earning money online through adsense except hard work. Find the higher paying niche which you really have interest on and get TRAFFIC to your blog or site and you will make money online through ADSENSE. Thanks Shelly77
