Sorry to ask: what is H1 or H2 or Hx...?

I am sorry to ask such a simple question.. anyhow it is not simple to me.

Days before I tested one of my sites with an online SEO tool and was informed that my site is lack of H1, H2, or Hx(I mean 3,4,5...); and maybe impact SE ranking.

Could anyone here kindly tell me what that about?
Much appreciate if anyone could also post some similar code as an example..

    Try this one.

H1 to H6 are html tags that can be used to make 'sections and subsections' with a page.

Thank you Jitendraag for your kind reply.

Do you mean that each sections of a page should be coded with H1 or Hx?
Seems it will be a huge task to do that coz I myself do everything for my sites...

    Hey HCG,

Just tried it, and found something puzzling..
Why the letter size of H2 smaller than H1, then H3 smaller than H2.. ?

Yes, try to have an H1 tag in each of your pages. H2s are also good.

BTW, it's defined that way, H1 is supposed to be bigger, h2 smaller, h3 smaller than that etc.

Thank you agian JTD for your kind reply.

One more question, will the words quoted in H1 code appear in my page when otheres serf my site?
If so, should I just make the title of my article as H1 coded and do not need write it in text again?

Check out basics of on-page seo. Part way down the page (under the heading "Website Design: H1 - H6 Tags), this gives you sample code for the h1-h6 tags and also gives you sample code for defining them in your css style sheet. It also explains other basic concepts such as title tags, alt text, again with sample code.

Yes the words in H1 will appear on your page when others read your site - they will appear in whatever style (font, colour, size etc) you have defined in your style sheet.

using of H1 to Hx is important when it comes to search engines where emphasizing to the robots which to give more priority of your keywords that enclosed in H1 tag and follows by the less priority keyword header tags.
