    Im using Vigos Gsitemap to make a sitemap for my new forum which has 1000+ page need to be indexed), but it takes too long to be completed. I ran it last night before I went to bed, and it still not finish until now (4pm). Does I need to set something to make it faster? (I already choose highest priority)

    XML Sitemap Format

    The Sitemap Protocol format consists of XML tags. All data values in a Sitemap must be entity-escaped. The file itself must be UTF-8 encoded.
    A sample Sitemap that contains just one URL and uses all optional tags is shown below. The optional tags are in italics.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">
    <url>
    <loc>http://www.example.com/</loc>
    <lastmod>2005-01-01</lastmod>
    <changefreq>monthly</changefreq>
    <priority>0.8</priority>
    </url>
    </urlset>
    Some Required Tags in site map
    Begin with an opening <urlset> tag and end with a closing </urlset> tag.
    Include a <url> entry for each URL as a parent XML tag.
    Include a <loc> child entry for each <url> parent tag.

    Site map is very important. It should be uploaded to the root directory.

    Importance of Search Engine Sitemap: Search engine sitemap is an easy way for you to submit all your URLs to the search engine’s index and get detailed reports about the visibility of your pages on the search engines. With Search Engine Sitemap you can automatically keep the search engines informed of all your web pages, and when you make changes to these pages to help improve your coverage in the search engine’s crawl.

    Hi, I am very new to all of this and I'm just starting to build websites. I have two sites right now and they are totally different. My problem is that when I created a site map for my second site I noticed that both domain names are in the browser. Ex; www.dogandcat.com/veggiesite/GoogleSitemap.xml;

    fictious names of course;
    dogandcat.com is the first site, but veggiesite is the name of the directory for my second site. These two sites are totally different and have no similar content.
    I knew something was not right because I tried to put adsense on my second site and the ads pertained to the content on the first site, meaning I had dog and cat ads on the veggie site.
    I deleted the google sitemap from my hosting and deleted the verification from google. How do I correct this problem and what did I do wrong? I hope all of this makes sense. I use xsite pro 2 to build my websites. Please explain in simple terms and thanks.
    :confused:

    A sitemap may be an XML or a plain text file.

    The plain text version of a sitemap is composed of a URL per line. No more information can be represented there.
    Both Google and Yahoo support sitemaps in plain text version.

    I have published an open source tool I made long time ago for crawling websites (Windows only). A few months ago I added functionality for exporting crawled URLs to a plain text sitemap file. Recentrly I started porting this tool to Java to make it available in a platform independent package (Linux and Mac users besides Windows' users).

    I can't publish the URL as I don't have the required level in the forum yet. You can google it as DRKSpider.

    If I don't have robot.txt, does that mean google search engine can crawl any of my page?

    IS IT NECESSARY TO HAVE A ROBOT FILE?

    It will be able crawl your pages whether you have it or not. All the robots.txt file will do is tell the legitimate search spiders (I do NOT include Yahoo! Slurp here) which files/directories to ignore (if any), and where your XML sitemap is, if you have one.

    Also, having a robots.txt file will help keep your server logs free of "false" 404 (File Not Found) errors, which will make finding the real broken links a heck of a lot easier.

    No. Sitemaps are created using formats suitable for their purpose. The general idea is to provide search engines with information of your site using as few resources as possible. In that direction you can build a plain text sitemap. But that format is only able to provide a URL list. XML format let you specify modification date, priority and more.
    Most search engines can extract sitemap information from RSS and ATOM feeds too. I guess they use just part of the information an RSS feed provides.

    I love this topic -- there should also be talk of spamming issues with your sitemap being submitted and the submission of your blog and its rss feeds to the blog and rss directories as well.

    I love the post
