I check out most vendors websites and nearly every single one will use some sort of pop-up etc within 30 seconds of visiting the site, this will be some sort of free ebook etc, all they are doing is taking your hard-earnt traffic to create huge email marketing lists. What do you think about this?
99% of the time, those emails are captured and a series of newsletters are sent to encourage the sale. Since your affiliate cookie lasts for 30 days, these vendors are actually *helping* you increase your profits as well as their own. Sure they might get to sell more products later on down the line and you won't get a commission, but you should begrudge someone else their success when they're helping you achieve yours. A squeeze page before a sales letter is a different matter however, as they're not even giving the prospect a chance to see the offer. This filters out a lot of people who might want to buy but don't want to subscribe to anything. The best way to do it (for affiliates AND vendors) is a popup on the sales page.
Completely agree with the above, if you send a visitor and he ends up just leaving then that's the end of the story basically , however if a vendor follows up with reminders then you have more of a change to get the sale. So what if the vendor is building their list.....
Yeah, CB has cookies which lasts in the users browser for 30 days. If they manage to push the sale to them within that time then all the better for you .
If it is pop up then OK but I stopped to promote one survey site simply because they had squeeze page before sales page.
I heard recently that some vendors (forex niche) have been contacting purchasers of their products and telling them they they need to purchase additional training etc in order for them to use the product properly but it costs like $2000! This is OK if they make a few extra sales of this add on service for them, but how many have refunded the original purchase after hearing this? I heard about this tactic and then found that I personally experienced 75% refunds on that one product alone! Not all vendors are equal!
Absolutely true, the best thing you can do is actually sign up to any offer that a vendor may be promoting , then you can see if they are referring people who sign up through a different link (thus overwriting yours) or you can make sure that they are on the up and up and you will get your commission if they decide to purchase.
Lol That acne guy sends you in the e-mails offers for his acne creams, guess that you don't get credit for that, do you? Others, they simply replace their cookie with yours. I avoid to maket such products because I hardly make any money with them.
I have to agree with you. I have been sending tons of highly targeted traffic to various CB vendors and am making hardly any money, when I send traffic to a CB vendor that doesn't use an email list etc I can make sales. I simply think that you are just expanding the email lists of the vendors that have these stupid pop-ups etc, sign-up here bah bah, free report. Why waste your time and money just to build an email list for someone else? create your own email list is a much better way for long-term success.
Well I can say the exact opposite, I make more money from vendors that have an opt in and make further contact. Couldn't care less if I am or not, it's just a fact of online marketing. Why do you think most successful vendors do it?? I highly doubt you will be successful in this game if you get hung up on that small factor. Get smart and get them to opt in to your list before sending them through to the vendor......simple.
Terry is right. Once you've sent the visitor to the vendor, they can do what they want. If you want to retain that visitor, squeeze them into your own list.

I'm pretty sure the cookie is 60 days Vendor opt-ins can be very powerful if the vendor doesn't promote outside products within the first 60 days.. That's my policy. We win many sales for affiliates with followups. And NEVER steal commissions or divert your traffic to other affiliate programs while your cookie is still active.
gary101 I agree. I have been slowly stopping my promotions of vendors with obtrusive email opt-ins. Once more affiliates catch on to this, the vendors will be forced to change their ways as they watch affiliate numbers drop.... Whats so wrong with "I'll scratch your back, you scratch mine"?
I have experienced some good vendors who in fact building their own list but offering commission up to 1 year to affiliates. So it's not bad to promote these vendors.
