With a new site this depends on whether you experience the Sandbox or not. Personally, I never have - but if your keyword is very competitive it is likely that you won't be seen in the higher spots for months.

SEO is a matter of tweaking constantly and optimizing for a keyword constantly - it isn't just a matter of doing your on-page optimization once and then leaving it. I've had pages go to the top 3 the day after they were created with a 3-or-so month site, but if you don't keep on working and updating and optimizing you will slip from the top.

depends on how competitive your keywords is, usually it will take you months.
If keywords is very competitive like stockbroker or buy tv then it might take years. In the mean time you should concentrate on less competitive keywords like UK stockbroker review or buy TV cheap and quick.

    depends on the keyword entirely.

if its lowish competition and you build the right site and have resources from which to launch it powerfully you can sometimes go straight to the top 5 and stay there.

if its very competitive it could take 2 years.

just depends what the kw is

Depends on your keyword competition, competitive keywords are very hard to push up on new websites, can take up to a few years or longer for the best position, long tailed keywords with good domain can be done in a few months if competition is minimum.

New sites start off with Sandbox postion, if im not wrong!
I think reaching in top 3 is a huge task, and it might take from 6 months to more than 1 year even,
it all depends on the keywords you are targeting, and then totaly depends on your efforts and skills regarding SEO aspects, Link Building, Content and stuff!

    Pradeep,

Here's a fast overview on scoring for that keyword phrase:

You're looking at a 4-6 month project if you spend a lot of time and a descent amount of money ($1,000 - $1,500) to score in the top 5 for this keyword. That's if you do ALL your on-page SEO right, pay to have your site submitted to a few thousand directories, get a couple thousand social bookmarking links, and put out a flurry of articles over that 4-6 month period with everything anchoring your target keyword.

    Here's why I say this...

Take a look at this link here: http://screencast.com/t/z1NToy6Ysn

You'll see that you have a p/day traffic value estimate of 1021 if you were in the #1 spot for that term. Not Bad.

However the competition value for that phrase is a full 457,000 which is well above the 150,000 mark for easy 3 month entry.

If you put a magnifying glass on your top ten competition here: http://screencast.com/t/mQFpHZj6QH

...You'll see that all the top contenders have aged domains (2+ years) which doesn't bode well if yours is new. The PR of the sites except for the #1 buy are all lite though which is a good sign, as is the number of backlinks to those pages. On-site SEO work on them is lacking in all but two of the domains as well.

The deck is stacked against you for fast Top-10 inclusion, but with a lot of work and because of the three weaknesses I outlined it should be achievable within 6 months if you know what you are doing.

p.s. - I would NEVER target that Niche myself. Too much competition unless you want to build an authority site....and I doubt that keyword is going to pay you what you need in order to justify the time/expense to build a flagship site.

it depend on how competitive your keyword is. If you optimizing on "Flowers" or "hotels" i am sure that your site will be in sandbox for a minimum one year. If your keyword is "Resmed bipap machines" then you can be visible on first 10 positions after 15 days. Of course you need to have some good content and pages linking to your website. If the keyword is not a secret please write it to us ;-)

    Hi

I think that is a tough question to answer without knowing your chosen keyword, also your level of knowledge and how much time you can set aside each day to dedicate to achieving this.

I once posted a general question and had several PM's from SEO companies stating we can get you page one within 12 months for xxxx amount of money (even though I was never looking for anyone to do it for me), but anyway my point is I achieved this myself within 6 months ;) but it's hard work, especially in a competitive niche.

it really depends on the keyword you used, the content of your site, how optimized your pages, how frequently updating your content and of course how many backlinks your website have.

It took me and my team of 3 people to get number 1 for the term "car hire" on Google, it can take awhile and a lot of the time you see no dramatic increase, just keep plugging away.
