Does Anyone Do This on a Regular Basis??? If So, Is it Effective???

I'm doing a lot of backlinking to one of my sites...and about every sig link I leave, I bookmark it by using my accounts I have w/ a Social BM site. For an example, let's say I leave a backlink to my site on domainA.com, and then bookmark it using a couple social BM sites like DZone.com, LinkaGoGo.com, and BackFlip.com.

I've seen some good results from this, but I'm not sure if it's by this or just regular backlinking. Just wondering if anyone does this practice and if so, what type of results have you've experienced?

Social bookmarking is designed mostly to boost your site traffic. It's not a good source of backlinks. If you want to get more BLs, allot more time in posting in relevant forums.

I would try to bookmark your own sites and get backlinks only for your sites because you want that boost to go to your site right?

It's worth trying but forum signature links & 'no name' directory links have become next to worthless lately.

    Nooobie alert :

Why would you want to bookmark your own sites? Are you saying to visit your own sites daily? Sounds like if you are getting 1000 visitors a day that it wouldn't be the best use of your time?!

A lot of people do that for blog comments, they bookmark the pages that approved their comments. I think it's a good strategy.

Posting your url's on social bookmarking sites can be a very good source of back links if they are posted on DO follow SB sites.

I would caution everyone about trusting any post or site that "claims" a SB site is or isn't do follow. Over the last day or so I have found four locations-sites/blogs that are reputable enough that claim various sites are or aren't do follow. No slam against them but many SB sites have or will change from do follow to no follow-rarely that I know of in the other direction. You really need to check yourself before posting on these sites assuminig that the post or seo guru who lists the site on their site is a do follow. It might have been when the post was published, and today it has changed to no follow. The problem with posting on do follow SB sites is that the link may disappear from Google when the site goes no follow. Isn't this fun?

@richromo: The fact that a link is no follow doesn't mean that google won't spider it, the link won't pass any "juice" but the page will still be indexed and "spidered".

@bigcat1967: What you are doing makes sense if the page you commented on isn't indexed or in website that won't be "respidered" quickly. If you commented on a page with high PR your post should be indexed quickly and I wouldn't waste my time bookmarking it.

so "bookmarking" is actually the term for adding links back to your site in a blog post? It's not like bookmarking your google tool bar.
