Phone number on an ecommerce site

    Recently I saw a thread by a successful DP e-commerce store owner who showed off his store. The store itself was in a normal format, but at the top was prominently displayed "Call us: 1-800-555-5555." There was even a red circle around this.

    For those of you who have used phone numbers, do you feel it is a significant addition to an e-commerce store (in terms of added legitimacy, sales, better customer service etc)

    From customer point of view,its crucial to have a legit phone number and a prime business location.
    That why for all of my e-biz i used a separated phone number and its free toll.
    Its important to customer to reach us whenever there a need arise.

    Absolutely - it gives credibility and lets you know that it's "clicks and bricks" and not just something run after hours by some guy with a day job.

    Sure. It just adds some credibility to the site if people can call to get information they might not find on the site.

    But whatif the site is in fact run by a random guy with a day job? Is not having the phone number a significant hindrance to the business?

    I have a phone number on my ecommerce website and i receive many calls because of it. It certainly helps put customers at ease knowing that they can contact you first.

    Absolutely.

    By having a phone number I know I can get service, chase a refund etc. if there is a problem.

    Do you guys think using an outside service to take calls would be worth the cost then?

    It depends on the volume you think you can do. But yes, most people won't call the number, they just need to know that they can.
