    Hi,

I just finished working on my personal website, with the aim to promote myself as a freelance writer for the forex niche as well as providing background on who I am and what I do.

I'm specifically targeting higher paying clients and I was wondering whether you have any tips specific to promoting personal websites like this on the Web.

    thanks :)

Post at as many webmaster forums that you possibly can. Link exchange with other sites and submit to directories. Advertise banner, text or sticky post on forums.

    Hi Dario,

If you want to write specifically for the Forex niche, then focus your site on demonstrating your expertise in that area.

If you have some examples and testimonials for your work - then certainly include those.

Also, consider having an offer to encourage people to contact you or sign-up for your list.

Do some research to see if you can find other writers or copywriters who are targeting the Forex niche too and look at their sites.

    Hope this helps.

You have done well in that you have defined your target audience. Now you must figure out what your target audience wants and expects, and then give it to them.

Higher paying clients will probably expect professional treatment and services. You will need a professional looking site at a minimum. Doesn't have to be anything huge, but must look professional. Your personal website really is in pretty bad shape. No offense, but it doesn't even look good enough for just a personal website.

There are plenty of free professional templates available on the net. All you would need besides your homepage is a Contact, About Us, and Privacy pages. Remember, first impressions are important. You want to impress your higher paying clients the second they arrive at your site.

I would not consider using a personal website in your case. But, if you want to try it, at least get a domain name consisting of your name, DarioBorghino.com. One reason you will have to do this is because you will need to try and market your name, which will be difficult to do. In other words, you will need to advertise and try to get some traffic to your site. Nobody knows you, but they do know forex. forexwriter.com would be easier to do something with than yourname.com. See where I'm going with this?

Again, it is not my intent to offend you about your website. I'm only trying to help.

    Good luck,
    Zeek

    Hi Zeek,

thanks for your suggestions. I understand what you mean: the fact is that I I've been continually editing my website every once in a while for the last few months, and not always with my target clear in mind -- sometimes I just wanted to make it "fun" to navigate in order to retain my visitors, which is why I added that top navigational bar. Users on DP seem to like it, but maybe I should focus less on that.

The initial reason behind the blog was to provide samples of my writing and get more traffic to the website through Google and social bookmarking media, but I guess the tone is too informal. Plus I probably need to get a better looking blog if I want to retain it.

Maybe I should just get the courage to restart everything from scratch :).

    Thanks again for your input,
    Dario

Hey Dario..I didn't know your personal website was a blog. I got to your homepage and didn't go any further. I am not a high paying professional, but if that was MY first impression, what do you think those that are will do? Those icons on top reminded me of a child's site.:D

One of the things people overlook when building a site is they forget that you have to tell people exactly what you want them to do. You can't assume that visitors know anything.

A blog would be perfect in your particular case. I didn't even think of that. The only thing you would need to give a little thought to is "Do I want to try to brand my name?", or go the keyword forex writer route.

    Good luck!!

I'm not sure I got what you meant here. Did you mean that you didn't get the icons at the top were a navigational menu and that I should make that more obvious for my visitors?

You can start off by changing the name of your signature. "My personal website" will not attract any visitors... Make a catchy title!

Yes. That is exactly what I meant.. I had no clue that they were your Navigation stuff. Looked like something kids might click on.

That might be "cool" for a personal website, but if you want to do business, put some text out there.
