I don't get why everyone says that PR means nothing - is it not an indication of googles internal ranking for your site, therefore its pretty damn important?

Yes, but is the site that ramks well, ranking because of it's PR or because it has lots of quality links. PR is a by-product.

Who cares about google internal ranking?? For a website the most important thing is visibility!! I beleive a better ranking in SERPS is more important than achiving a decent PR.. That does not mean PR 9-10

So nobody is saying that PR isn't important, just that it isn't as important as it used to be?

depends what you consider it for :

it is NOT important for good rankings with search engines
but if you want to buy/sell links/sites, it may have some significance for you ;)

Because, generally speaking, the higher the PR of the page you're selling the link on, the more $ you'll get for it. Higher PR = higher cost/link.

PR is not Googles ranking. It is their tally.

The ranking is based upon "votes" cast by other websites. Google is not a registered voter.

Some webmasters cast a few votes and others cast thousands and thousands of them. Often creating multiple sites in an effort to cast as many votes for themselves as they can.

There is no standard criteria for casting a vote and many webmasters will cast a vote for anyone that will do the same for them. Self promotion being the operative.

Nothing more than Googles tally. PR is MY ranking of your website and when it comes to that, ALL my websites are better than yours. :p

Weird. I have 7 domains and out of the 7, 1 was already having a PR5 and many pages now get PR 5 too, 2 didn't get updated (bought the domain recently so it's PR 0) and out of the 4 remainings, 3 got PR 3 and 1 got PR 4! Mind you, one of the four never ever got any link pointed to it and has almost no content... This PR update is strange if you want my opinion

It kind of sucks that all my internal PR for two online stores dropped, but their keyword rankings remain the same. Maybe PR is really overrated if search engine positions don't depend on them.

I think PR is only a tiny element, as you guys know they look at Anchor Text, IP address;, the Quality of incoming links, the Title of the incoming link page ect.

Maybe PR has become even less important in that mix?

PR is one of 100 parts to the Google Algorithim and a thread this long on it means most of you are not working on your sites

And that Google PR seems to have mysteriously cast a spell on a whole lot of people.....

Is it like soylent green or something ???

Or like deer stunned by car headlights???

Thank you and stay reading the forums ;)

    Off to market...

Did someone say that certain kind of sites got left out or there is a part two to this PR update? Our backlinks were updated to over 1,000 and we have over 115,000 on Yahoo, but our homepage is still stuck at PR2. It's weird....there is no way it should still be there after almost a year. All of our internal pages are PR3 and PR4, what is up with this, maybe we have something setup wrong.

It's because most older pages have not had a toolbar PR update since 2005 (besides some pages/sites that were given inaccurate PR on the April 4th update).

    Hey,

Thanks for the info, but why haven't these pages been updated in soooo long? That's true, our PR hasn't changed since 2005. so unbelievable. We should have a PR5 by now.
